Maple Dale; Loblaws cheeses recalled

Cheddar cheese is being recalled due to possible Listeria contamination.

Cheddar cheese has been recalled from two companies due to possible Listeria contamination.

Maple Dale Cheese Co. says it is recalling its 1 year old Cheddar, sold in Ontario in 235 gram packaging with a best before date of Aug. 21, 2023. The affected product has the following UPC code: 6 23164 22235 6. VAT numbers 211227 and 211197.

Loblaws Companies Ltd is recalling PEC brand Canadian Cheddar cheese because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This recall was triggered by Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) test results. The product is sold nationally in Canada. The cheese was sold in 250g packaging with a best before date of Aug. 24 2024. The UPC is 060383837464.

“Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness,” the CFIA said in a statement on Saturday. “In severe cases of illness, people may die.”

The company says recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
