Margaret Stoddard receives Hospice PE volunteer award

Volunteers continue to fuel many organizations in Prince Edward County that would not be able to operate if it weren’t for their passion.
At Hospice Prince Edward, it is no different. This year HPE honours Margaret Stoddard as the recipient of the 2011 June Callwood Visiting Volunteer Award.
Stoddard was honoured at a recent Hospice Palliative Care Conference held by the The Hospice Association of Ontario (HAO) and the Ontario Palliative Care Association. Volunteers are recognized for outstanding efforts in palliative care, compassion, and end-of-life care.

“Margaret has been a very dedicated and compassionate visiting volunteer for Hospice Prince Edward for over five years and is very deserving of this award,” said Audrey Whitney, Service Coordinator for Hospice Prince Edward. “Her professional career was a nurse, so the transition from nurse to visiting volunteer for Hospice Prince Edward was easy. Families of patients have complimented Margaret’s attention to detail and care.”

Visiting volunteers from Hospice Prince Edward provide compassionate end-of-life care to patients who are deemed palliative or are facing a life-limiting illness.
“Trained volunteers are a community link to information and resources for compassionate end-of-life care,” said Nancy Parks, Hospice Prince Edward Executive Director. “Grief and bereavement support is available to all ages on a one-to-one basis or in support groups.”
