Masons present $13,209 in support of Alzheimer societies

Harold Newton has family members suffering and battling Alzheimers and says many families in the Quinte region are negotiating their way along a painful path of learning how to obtain care and support for the patient and caregivers.
For those reasons he choose The Alzheimer Society as his charity of choice during his year as District Deputy Grand Master, of the Prince Edward District Masons.
“It pleased me that the Alzheimer Societies of Belleville, Prince Edward County and Bancroft all agreed to put the money directly back into their communities,” said Newton. “It’s a terrible disease and we are pleased to be able to help in this way.”

Fundraising efforts during 2012-2013 surpassed a goal of $10,000.  The lodges in the district – from Bancroft to the north, Brighton to the west, and Picton to the south – raised $13,209.20 from the many events including pancake breakfasts, summer barbecues and dinners.  Funds are to be allocated to Prince Edward County $6,000;  Belleville and area $6,000;  and Bancroft $1,200.

Congratulations to the Prince Edward District Masons on their donation! This disease is especially heartbreaking as your loved one is still with you in body but eventually does not know their family and friends. Glad to see that the money is to be used for support here in our own local area. Again well done!
