Matching gifts to the Picton Library expansion will keep on giving

Following a tour of the expansion underway at the Picton Libray, the Busscher family from Picton Home Hardware is encouraging the community to show its love for the library by matching donations made in December.

Adam Busscher toured the expanded library last week.

“I had seen the plans,” he said, “but seeing it in person was so impressive.” After the tour, he was inspired to make this matching gift to the library to help it cross the fundraising finish line.

“Picton Home Hardware are our holiday heroes,” said expansion fundraising committee chair Alexandra Bake, who was accompanied by chair of the library board Devon Jones, to receive the good news from Adam and Mark Busscher.

“Approximately $100,000 remains to be raised of our $2,800,000 fundraising goal. Our community is so supportive and this wonderful challenge from the Busscher family will most certainly help us to the finish line.

Picton Home Hardware and the Busscher family will match all donations given through the month of December, up to $25,000 – meaning any donations during this time will have double the impact.

Donations can also be made in honour of another person, for Christmas. And all gifts will keep on giving.

Using a library card, people can redeem gifts of learning from books, videos, musical instruments, activities and meeting areas for children, youth and adults, learn languages, how to use your computer, cell phone and tablet, get internet access, or passes for conservation areas; functional fitness, information sessions, author interviews, ancestry reference, Hoopla Digital movies, discovery kits and more.

Construction is close to completion and in the new year, library services will move into the building while the existing library is renovated and restored. Project completion is anticipated for early summer 2023.

More than half of the $2.8 million project has been covered by fundraising and donations.
