Prince Edward County Mayor Robert Quaiff thanked the crews at the Glenora Ferry this week for making the best of a poor situation.

The mayor shared the news last month there will be no 15-minute ferry service this summer at all due to continued maintenance to neighbouring ferries. It was originally promised to return in July. It may return after Labour Day.

Those using the County to Adolphustown link have endured delays as the ferry service typically increases to double vessel, 15-minute service handling on average 40,000 vehicles in July and August.

Meanwhile, employees at the ferry have been doing their best to minimize impact, speaking with riders and using social media to inform when heavy usages cause delays.

“I wanted to confirm with them that they’re doing a great job for us. Also, I had the time to cross with them and see first-hand how they cope,” said Quaiff. “Hats off to them. They say around 90 per cent are happy. Their breaks are always on the fly.”

Quaiff hopes a suggested meeting with the Minister of Transportation will go forward during the AMO Conference being held in Niagara Falls this month.

The mayor had contacted the ministry in March and June concerned about the “significant and negative impact” of limiting access to one of the four entry ways to the County.
