Mayoral candidate standing by decision

The Concerned Citizens of Prince Edward County (CCPEC) have asked me to reconsider my recent decision not to participate in their upcoming All
Candidates’ Meeting. I want to let the citizens of The County know that I
gave this a great deal of thought and consideration and I stand by my
original decision not to participate.

Since not everyone has necessarily declared their candidacy at this time,
in all fairness to both the final slate of candidates and the people of Prince
Edward County, I felt that it would more beneficial for everyone to hold
such a meeting once the deadline has closed. It would be presumptuous of me to assume that I know everything that County citizens want at this early
stage of the campaign; therefore, I, personally, want to take the time to
collect information from as many people as possible to better assess the
needs and concerns of our citizens.

As a councillor and active, community participant, I have grown
increasingly  aware that many people are unhappy over the lack of meaningful  consultation regarding decisons being made by the Municipality. I believe  in having an open dialogue with individual voters on a broad basis.  Connecting and  listening to them either one-on-one or in small groups is  essential not only to finalize my election platform, based on the needs/concerns of the people but also to build a foundation of trust
necessary to work together for the  future well being of both The County and  its constitunts. Being a member of one The County’s founding families, I want to work with  all the residents to continue to build our community together. I hope that  every voter knows that I am available to discuss any issue with them and can  be contacted either by phone at 613-961-7920 or by email to sandral@unb.ca.I will continue to consult with groups and individuals on a daily basis.
The office of Mayor and the responsibilities associated with it are not to
be taken lightly.  It is my intention to deliver and debate a
well-informed, comprehensive platform built on the needs and concerns of the citizens of Prince Edward County.  I will do my homework.  I will consult with you, and  I will deliver.
Sincerely,
Sandy Latchford
