Meet the authors, get their books, at County Local Author Book Fest

When you think of holiday shopping, the library may not be the first place that comes to mind – and for good reason. Most things at the library are available at no charge and available to everyone – an important core value of the public library.
However, we value supporting local authors and providing an opportunity for them to sell their works at the library is a great way to do that. This year, volunteer Andrea Harrison is organizing a special “Prince Edward County Local Author Book Fest”, providing the one-stop holiday shopping for local books, Saturday, Dec. 6 from 1-3 p.m. at the Picton Branch Library.
You’re invited to meet some of Prince Edward County’s incredible local authors and connect with other readers. The library will also have replica copies of the historic Tremaine Map – printed on vinyl and perfect for hanging, as well as a select few local history books available for purchase.
Confirmed authors span a wide range of genres, from historical nonfiction and children’s literature to photography and contemporary fiction.
Janet Kellough’s historical mysteries remain long-time library favourites, while Thomas Harrison offers a fascinating look at Richard Nixon’s little-known trip to the County. Linda Shantz brings equestrian fiction that’s perfect for the horse-lover in your life, and SM Hurley returns with The Sevens, featuring fictional PEC Crown Attorney Augie de Graaf.
Peter Blendell contributes a selection of thoughtful and distinctive novels, and Joanne Cournyea-Fralick, known for local history titles, has now expanded into westerns. Gail Hamilton’s well-researched historical fiction is a pleasure to read, and Roz Bound, celebrated for her poetry, explores deeper questions of aging and awareness in Aging Consciously, Dying Awake. Phil Norton’s photography books make excellent gifts, and Lynn Grist’s Treasure at Sandbanks offers historical fiction for children with a local twist.
All of these authors have confirmed their attendance, with more joining every day, so expect additional names to be announced. If you’re a local author interested in selling your work, reach out to Andrea directly at agility.addict@aol.com
Our thanks to Andrea for putting this event together and all her hard work in planning.
As we reach the end of the calendar year, many people start to think of end-of-year giving. When you give a gift to the library, you’re really giving a gift to the whole community. Your support helps your local branch thrive, strengthens collections, and keeps the library vibrant for everyone. You can direct your donation to the area or program of interest, and you can even make a donation in honor of a friend or loved one. We will send a card to let them know. Learn more at peclibrary.org or visit any branch of the library. Your support makes a real difference.
