Midget AE Kings enter playoffs on a high note

Despite a pair of losses in late December, the Canadian Tire Midget Kings bounced back to finished their regular season with three wins and tie heading into the playoffs.  On Dec. 20th the Kings travelled to Port Hope and were downed by the home squad by a 6-1 margin.  Their lone goal was scored by Bryce Timm from Jamie Ferguson while Brad Wells patrolled the Kings crease.

A few days later on the 23rd the Kings were in Napanee and didn’t fair much better, going down 6-3 to the Stars.  Kings goals came from Kevin Rallison and Wade Purchase (2) with assists going to Will Lane and Tanner Thompson.   George Goddard and Wells shared the goaltending duties in this tilt.

The boys found their game on Jan. 30th in Wellington as they handed the visiting Ennismore Eagles a 5-2 loss.  The Eagles drew first blood with the only goal of the first period but the Kings evened things up when Weston Ferguson scored unassisted early in the second frame.  In the final period the home squad had an offensive explosion with goals by J. Ferguson (2), Riley McConnell and Timm.  Helpers on the Kings goals went to W. Ferguson, Pat Macpherson (2), Timm, Gabe Guadagnin, McConnell and Purchase.  Wells provided solid goaltending for the win.

Last Thursday night the Kings made a long school bus ride to Fenelon Falls and proceeded to pound the Sturgeon Lake Thunder by a 7-2 final.  The Kings got goals from Timm, Purchase and Rallison (2) in the second and Mason Powers, Jake Cole and Timm in third while Goddard was strong in net. Assists on the Kings damage were awarded to W. Ferguson (2), Rallison and Thompson.

Friday night the Kings travelled to Amherstview to take on the Loyalist Jets.  When these teams met in November the Jets handed the Kings a 7-1 loss so it was a big achievement for the boys to earn a 2-2 tie this time around.   With Wells in the Kings net the teams exchanged goals in the first and third periods.  W. Ferguson and Macpherson scored for the Kings with Guadagnin picking up the lone helper.

The Kings finished their regular season is style on Saturday night in Picton, downing Norwood 4-0.  Goddard was full value for the shut out while Thompson (2), Powers and W. Ferguson managed to beat the visiting goalie at the other end of the ice.  W. Ferguson, J. Ferguson, Guadagnin, Thompson and Donny Tait picked up assists on the Kings goals.

The Midget AE Kings now await confirmation of their OMHA playoff schedule with games likely to begin next week.
