Milford Fair focus on community of South Marysburgh

Saturday’s rainfall held off for the Milford Fair – giving hundreds of attendees the chance to visit with one another and participate in the day’s continuous entertainment.

“The fair was a great success and it was a warm but overcast day with the rain holding off until after the fair,” said president Johanna McCarthy. “There were lots of great games for the adults and children. The Mummers put on a wonderful afternoon show singing songs from their past productions.”

The day opened with a pancake breakfast and was followed by the annual parade from the former South Marysburgh School to the fairgrounds.

Candidates in the Oct. 19 federal election, and supporters of Neil Ellis, Jodie Jenkins and Terry Cassidy participated in the parade and stayed at the fairgrounds to chat with visitors.

“This fair is an event unlike any other in Prince Edward County,” said Steve Ferguson, fair vice-president, at the opening ceremonies. He welcomed South Marysburgh’s citizens who were participating and enjoying the event, as well as all those from outside the ward. “We hope you fall in love with our small community down here and come back often.”

As is tradition, the Murray Clapp Memorial Citizenship Awards were presented to honour community involvement and volunteer work by citizens and volunteers with the PEC fire department.
