More than 1,600 cannabis plants and property seized in Ameliasburgh

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) has seized more than 1,600 cannabis plants in Ameliasburgh ward, Prince Edward County.

Its the third large seizure this month.

CSCU officers, along with members of the Prince Edward County OPP Detachment, executed a search warrant on Sept. 24, on County Road 28.

In addition to the plants, investigators seized a generator and a variety of property and equipment used for the production of cannabis.

Two people, from Markham and Hamilton, were arrested and charged with cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four cannabis plants contrary to the Cannabis Act.

The accused have been released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Dec. 2.

On Sept. 22, OPP seized nearly 2,3000 cannabis plants in Sophiasburgh and charged four people from Scarborough, and of no fixed address. Police also seized power tools, a shot gun, Canadian currency and equipment used for the production of cannabis.

On Sept. 14, 17 people from Scarborough, Markham, Leamington and no fixed address were arrested. Police seized 2,300 cannabis plants in Sophiasburgh ward, two tractors, generators, power tools, a rifle and Canadian currency.
