MP Ellis collects ideas for action on climate change

Messages to the federal government about climate change were delivered Wednesday from about 80 people attending Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis’ town hall gathering in Wellington.

“We need to take action on climate change now and it starts with events like these to engage and educate constituents,” said Ellis. “It’s important the government hears from as many people as possible to contribute to Canada’s future climate change plan.”

All ideas are to be added to a report MP Ellis’s office will submit to the federal Ministry of Environment and Climate Change later this month. That report is to be reviewed by government officials on how to address climate change issues in Canada.

Key responses focused on educating Canadians on climate change issues both at home and abroad, as well as businesses and governments setting positive examples to improve climate change.

Those in attendance shared personal experiences where climate change was an issue, such as transportation emissions, and rising atmospheric temperatures and decreasing water levels.

Some suggested replacing the National Energy Board, creating a campaign to stop energy waste and replacing gas-fueled cars. Others focused on preservation of forests, water and wildlife.
