MP Malette appointed to standing committee on national defence

Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette and Minister David McGuinty

Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette is one of 10 members of parliament who have been appointed to the Standing Committee on National Defence.

The committee will be responsible for studying legislation and examining topics and issues related to the military, its bases, and national and international operations.

With CFB Trenton, Canada’s largest Air Force Base, located in the Bay of Quinte, MP Malette has national defence high on his priority list and says he will be focused on bringing forth the voices of the 5,000+ stationed members, and civilian staff located at 8 Wing, to Ottawa.

“My appointment to the Standing Committee on National Defence is an honour and a privilege. I look forward to representing our military members here in the Bay of Quinte and across Canada,” stated Malette. “I am eager to work collaboratively with Minister David McGuinty and my fellow MP colleagues and staff on the important work that lies ahead of us. In the current global landscape, our military operations are vital.”

The House of Commons Standing Committee on National Defence has a mandate to review all matters pertaining to the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces – as referred by the House of Commons, or undertaken on the Committee’s own initiative.
