Strong community support has encouraged Caleb Hutton and his sister Megan to pursue their musical dream to Nashville.
They perform and write their own music and see Nashville as the next step in their musical development. With their parents John and Lisa in tow, the young duo has already visited Music City, USA twice. The response they have received in Nashville has been positive.
“The more we were playing, the more we were writing,” said Megan. “The more our music took on a country flair.”
The shift from indie rock to country seemed to fit us better, Caleb said. We have been able to expand our fan base.
A decision was made to go to Nashville for the first time a little over a year. They packed up a couple of acoustic guitars and some CDs and off the family went. They spent the first couple of days doing the tourist thing, including a visit to Graceland.
Everywhere they went in Nashville the response to the “Canadian Kids”, as they were dubbed by the locals, was positive. They made a second trip in December 2009 and continued to receive positive feedback.
“People like us who are writing constantly,” Megan said. “Need to be in the circuit.”
So a third trip for as long as six months is in the works. Their parents are looking at the costs of the family moving to Nashville. In the meantime Caleb and Megan are doing their part and saving all they can.
The duo continues to write and perform, taking every opportunity to perform with other local musicians. They will be performing at the Regent Theatre on June 12 in support of the Rotary Club of Picton’s event to raise funds for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation and one of Rotary’s many endeavours, eradication of Polio.
The evening will offer a great mix of music for all ages. The program features live music that should entertain all ages: Monique Michaud,   John and Penny Kitchen, The Frere Brothers,  Caleb and Megan Hutton,  Rick Grant,  and Steve Ireland will headline a cast of  talented musicians.
Tickets are $25 each and are available from Rotarians or at the Regent Theatre Box office. For Tickets call: (613) 476-8416 ext 28 or toll free (877) 411-4761. For other questions or donations, call 619-476-8091.
