Naturally Green Justice?

Crowley-Blandings-Turtle-3-1024x682“Natural Justice” is a legal concept that entitles us all to a fair trial. Prince Edward County Field Naturalists have won a recent battle in their ongoing fight for Natural Justice. But they are learning that Natural Justice does not come cheap.

Indeed, Natural Justice can be very expensive if you are a citizen fighting multinational corporations that team up with your government to expropriate your rights. Developers partner with government and retain expensive law firms to suppress your democratic rights to health, tranquillity and undiminished property values.

But if you are a lowly turtle you have even more disadvantages: You have no money. You do not speak the language of the corporations and the lawyers and the bureaucrats who are trying to destroy your home. You do not understand what they are trying to do to you. You need somebody to speak for you in public, and in court.

Fortunately for wildlife in Prince Edward County, there is PECFN–the Prince Edward County Field Naturalists. PECFN has already raised $174,000 towards more than $220,000 needed to save Ostrander Point for the Blandings Turtle and for the birds and other creatures that rely on this naturally green habitat for their life. The
PECFN web site is at .

PECFN is proudly supported by several other not-for-profit County organizations, including CCSAGE Naturally Green, (at, which continues to help with publicity and fund-raising. CCSAGE Naturally Green congratulates PECFN on the recent news that it has won its own recent fight for Natural Justice. PECFN has won the right to have its Ostrander Point appeal heard before the highest court in Ontario. Their case is expected to be heard next fall or next winter. Meanwhile no habitat destruction can begin.

“PECFN has a very good prospect for winning its appeal.” said Anne Dumbrille, co-chair of CCSAGE Naturally Green. “We encourage County music lovers to attend the next PECFN fund-raising event, a very special “Turtle Concert” on July 13th at 2:30 PM in Picton United Church. We also have plenty of fresh new Naturally Green lawn signs available, and we will donate all proceeds above our unit cost of $10 to the PECFN legal fund,” she said.

Please help our Field Naturalists find Natural Justice for Nature’s creatures,
by getting a fresh new Naturally Green lawn sign! (Call 613-476-5363 to order a sign.)
