No merging of hospital foundations

MUSKOKA – Muskoka’s two hospital foundation chairs met with the hospitals’ board to put the rumour mill to rest. Interesting story by Alison Brownlee, of CottageCountryNow.ca Click here to read it.

As stated in Alan R. Capon’s book “This House of Healing PECMH” the Prince Edward County Hospital Women’s Hospital Auxiliary decided to hold its first hospital gift and tag day in Picton, with rural districts to be canvassed door-to-door on Saturday, Nov 24, 1934.
Seventy seven years later, volunteers are still holding an annual tag day to raise funds for their local hospital PECMH. On a cold and somewhat damp Friday, May 27, 82 dedicated volunteers working a total of 356 hours were  able to raise $4,020.89. ($538.00 of the total amount was donated in Wellington.) Convenors Beth McConnell and Joan Brown thank all those who contributed to this very successful tag day, including both the volunteers and those residents who gave so generously.
Once again the County residents have shown just how important their local hospital is to them. These funds are earmarked for much needed equipment at PECMH.

Happy belated birthday to Countylive.ca’s Sue Capon and Amber Martin.
When they first went online in 2010 they had approximately 4,000 visits for the month of May. One year later the number of visits has climbed dramaticaly to more than 60,000. Amazing!
As my friend Marianne Malachowski said “There was a big need in the County for an online paper that is so accessible.”
The thing I like most about Countylive is that it doesn’t matter where you are in the world you have access to the latest breaking news in beautiful Prince Edward County. Well done Sue And Amber. Congratulations.

Way to go Muskoka. You are very right not to merge your two hospital foundations.
Look where the near sightness of PIcton merging with QHC got us –a 28 bed hospital and eventually something that is not a full service hospital. That is not what the people of Prince Edward County worked so hard for over the years to obtain.
I join with Fran in congratulations to Sue and Amber for the launching of this site
Tremendous jump in numbers of people using site over one year.
