Picton early childhood educators honoured for ‘Raising the Bar’

Congratulated for delivering excellent quality learning and meeting high standards were: (far right) Marg McConnell, of Prince Edward Child Care Services' Day Care Centre along with supervisors of childcare programs, Michelle Lloyd, of Amherstview Daycare; Ann Vernelli, of Millcreek Childcare Centre; Ange Sunstrum-Kid’s Club House; Cherilyn Eves-Lamplighter Preschool; Steacy Fenwick-Huffman- Camden Community Daycare and Heather Mason.

Prince Edward Lennox and Addington Social Services marked the 11th anniversary of Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day recently.
Supervisors were honoured for participating in “Raising the Bar” in providing a high quality, inclusive childcare environment.
“It is recognized that the implementation of the full-day kindergarten program will have an impact on child care programs,” says Pam Kent, supervisor, children’s services with PELASS. “As the four and five-year-olds leave the childcare system to enter full-day kindergarten, the childcare centres will refocus their programs to serve younger age children. Raising the Bar is an important community initiative that will enable all childcare operators to come together and share best practices, and continue to implement new standards and policies that will improve the service available to parents.”
The presence of a “Raising the Bar” certificate is a sign the program is committed to maintaining provincial regulatory standards, as well as local community standards.
Early childhood educators recognized for their commitment to maintaining a high level of professional develpment were: Jillian Blemkie, Denise boos, Lori Clark, Robyn Cowan, Karen Dunlop, Sharon Evenden, Cherilyn Eves, Steacy Fenwick-Huffman, Michele Fretts, Sandra Henderson-Todd, Jennie Hill, Karen Jeffrey, Danielle Jolly, Becky Kavanaugh, Lindsey Kelford, Michelle Lloyd, Rebecca MacDonald, Krista Markland, Heather Mason, Marg McConnell, Mary Jane McLachlin, Lisa Mercer Burrows, Lindsay Morkem, Kim Morton, Lee Quann, Stacey Scott, Patricia Simpson, Melissa Slack, Stacey Stanford, Erin Thomson, Marie Watson and Katie Way.
