* * *ethel-roseboroughETHEL ROSEBOROUGH (nee TIBBO) – While holding the hand of her one-and-only, Art, comforted by David and Linda and serenaded by Elvis, our beloved Ethel died peacefully at home the morning of December 29, 2016. Daughter of the late Captain Earl Tibbo Sr. and Hilda Ann (Rose) Tibbo, Ethel was born on July 3, 1940,in a small fishing village in Newfoundland and was an east-coaster through and through: Fun loving, family oriented and kind to the core, she embodied all things good. Our Ethel (also known as Naanee, Auntie Er, Hilda, Tinkerbell, Effie, Grace and Cheesy) made everyone feel special with her caring concern, genuine interest and compassionate nature. She always made you feel welcome, remembered conversations from the past and took the time to understand what was important. She met the love of her life, Art, when she was just 14 years old and, besides proclaiming numerous times that he was the nicest person she’d ever known, as an added bonus he resembled her teeny-bopper (and forever) crush, Elvis Presley. She would go on to be Art’s cherished wife for 53 years. She was a doting mother to David (her “lovely boy”); adored mother-in-law and friend to Linda; proud grandmother to Brock, Austyn, Iain and Jamieson; treasured sister to brothers Gerald (Anne-Marie), David (Nancy), Daniel (Rosanne); and dearest Auntie Er to countless nieces and nephews. Ethel was predeceased by her brothers, Earl, George and Mackenzie (Mack) and sister, Barbara Maro, all of whom she loved and missed dearly. With Art always by her side, Ethel had a wonderful life full of fun, laughter, smiles and family. She lived by the belief that family wasn’t always about blood, but rather about the people in your life who wanted you in theirs. Breaking the glass ceiling for women in banking, she was the first female branch manager for CIBC in Toronto, where she had a long and fulfilling career and was well-loved by her employees. Her mother would proudly introduce her with: “This is my daughter—she’s a bank manager in Toronto.” Wanting to spend even more time with Art, Ethel took up the game of golf when she was 70 years youngand she embraced it whole-heartedly, despite it frustrating her immensely. “We’ve met so many great people,” she would say when we asked how she played. “It’s all about having fun.” Needless to say, we didn’t hear her brag too often about her score. Food was one of the many ways she expressed love and she especially loved to cook for Art. While he always appreciated her efforts, occasionally after trying a new recipe he’d say, “If we had this once a year it would be good honey.” She will be remembered for her famous chocolate layer birthday cake, Sunday night roast beef and yorkshire pudding dinners and David’s favourite Christmas treat: graham wafer balls. A fashionista to the core, Ethel didn’t walk to the mailbox unless fully accessorized top to bottom. She adored all things pretty, sparkly and girlie. In fact, Art would often find her in her closet “playing” with her jewellery. She was the coolest, funnest, most loving mac’n cheese making grandma that her grandkids could ever have hoped for. Some of Ethel’s fondest memories were times spent with Brock and Austyn as youngsters at their cottage in Coe Hill. Sandcastles on the beach and campfires at night, the family cottage will always be home. When David met Linda in 2002, Ethel would fully and completely welcome Linda’s sons Iain and Jamieson into her home and heart as her grandchildren too. We wish to extend heartfelt thanks to the Prince Edward Family Health and Palliative Care Team, who provided outstandingly compassionate care. Ethel would especially want to give extra-tight hugs to Dr. Colby (because he’s so kind), Heather Campbell (because she’s so lovely inside and out) and Brad Gunn (because he’s cute, cool AND wears cowboy boots!). The personal service workers have become a part of our family and we will miss their caring presence in our home. And we would be remiss without thanking Gerald and Anne-Marie for their unwavering love and support. In lieu of flowers, Ethel’s family would like to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to die in a caring and loving environment and asks that you consider making a donation to Hospice Prince Edward. A visitation will be held at Ainsworth Funeral Home, 288 Noxon Avenue, Wellington on Monday January 2, 2017 from 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm. At Ethel’s request, a Ceremony of Remembrance will be held in the early spring.
To know Ethel was to love her. As Elvis sang, “I can’t help falling in love with you” – and we couldn’t help falling in love with her either. Memorial Donations to Hospice Prince Edward may be made by cheque payable to Hospice Prince Edward and mailed to Hospice Prince Edward, 40 Downes Avenue, Picton, ON K0K 2T0. sandra-suttonSANDRA LYNN SUTTON – 1955 – 2016 – With such dignity and grace, Sandy began her next journey in life peacefully at home with myself and my family by her side, Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016 surrounded by so much love and prayers. Sandy bravely fought with such courage and strength a short battle with cancer. Sandy developed a strong work ethic at such a young age and carried this throughout both her professional and personal life….her passion during her years at Prince Edward Heights, supervisor of the Kinesology department and her over 25 years with WSIB. It was of the utmost importance to Sandy to ensure those under her care with both careers, were well looked after with such respect and passion in her heart. Rounding out these qualities was Sandy’s wonderful sense of humor and infectious laugh and her whistle throughout her office and our home! As my partner in life of 28 years, my heart, the place I call home, Sandy inspired us all with her unconditional love and support. She taught us all how to be better people. She was one of the greatest teachers in life. Sandy leaves behind her furry kids who she adored and loved with all her heart and they her. We will all love her the rest of our days on this earth and miss her quick wit and her passion she held in her heart for those around her. There wasn’t anything Sandy wouldn’t tackle, fix and complete around our home. Sandy had a gift for music, often heard playing many songs on her piano and her accordion from when she was just a little girl, around our bon- fire during both the summer and winter months. She loved her old boat that she had repaired and brought up to the era from which it was made. We would set sail taking sunset cruises across the waters of West Lake and often docking at the Sandbanks dunes with picnic in hand, and perhaps a bottle of red wine! Our many summers spent up at Otter Lake cottages with my family…it was always so good to get ‘back home’ when arriving at Sandy Beach Resort. My family was her family, how she loved each and everyone one of you…watching the nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews growing up around us, was always such happiness in Sandy’s heart. The many family sleepovers, how we would all camp right here at Changing Winds and the laughter, the closeness, the love was always shared by everyone and we hated when the weekends were over and the giggles and laughter would be gone until another family gathering. To my family, your love, your support, your compassion throughout this journey of Sandy’s, we can’t, I can’t, thank you enough for always being there for both of us. She has left us all a life time of memories, memories. I will cherish the rest of my days. Thank you Sandy from the bottom of my heart for always being here for me, for your love, your laughter and your heart. Your life on this earth was far too short, but, in that time, you have spread such love from your heart. Your work family from WSIB, hold such high respect and passion in their hearts for you. You have all been so wonderful during this time. How proud she is of each and everyone of you. Your friendship has always meant the world to Sandy. Your gifts of love, support and food has been so overwhelming. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our many friends, and my family, who have been on this journey with us, your love, your visits, support, hugs and much food along the way will never go unnoticed, I can’t thank you enough, it always meant the world to us. To the most kind, caring and compassionate nurses, Heather Campbell and Jennifer Hall. You were both such great Guardian Angels to both of us but, especially to Sandy. To Dr. Elizabeth Christie, you too, were an Angel brought to fight in Sandy’s corner. Never change your wonderful and caring hearts. I can’t thank you enough for all you did during Sandy’s last journey on this earth. Sandy was predeceased by her parents Don and Betty Sutton and she leaves behind her sisters Rosemary (Allen), Sheila (Gord) and nieces Evan, Emily, Robert and Andrea. She loved you all very much. If you are ever lucky enough to come upon another human being with such kindness, love and compassion for those around them, then I can assure you, you have met Sandy. To Tod Lavender of Ainsworth Funeral home in Wellington, you have gone so above and beyond with everything for both Sandy and I. I can’t thank you enough Tod. To Reverend Steve Spicer, you captured during Sandy’s celebration of life, all that she was, all that she will be and continue to be. Thank you so very much for your kind, spiritual and loving words. Thanks also to Steven Sprigings for the playing the bagpipes at the service, to those who have sent cards sent to Sandy and to our great neighbors. A Graveside Service was held on
Saturday, November 5th, 2016 at the Wellington Cemetery. If desired, donations in Sandy’s name, to Hospice Prince Edward County. Bill-ClementsBILL CLEMENTS – October 5, 1921 – March 5, 2016 – Sculptor, teacher, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and an unfailingly kind and positive person, Bill enriched the lives of others for more than 94 years. Surrounded by family, Bill died at the Hillier, ON, home that he designed and built for himself and his wife, Grace, over 40 years ago. Part home, part studio, part gallery, their home on Pleasant Bay Road became a Prince Edward County landmark for many friends and fellow artists. Following four years of service in the Royal Canadian Navy, using his veterans allowance, Bill attended the Ontario College of Art, graduating with highest honours. His works have graced many collections, galleries, private homes, and buildings. In addition, he patiently encouraged countless young people to appreciate the value of art and creativity, both at Danforth Technical School in Toronto and the Ontario College of Art. In 1985 in recognition of his life’s work in sculpture, he was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Despite his success in the art world, he would undoubtedly consider his finest achievement to be his family. Married for almost 74 years to Grace (Ridout), Bill took his greatest pleasure in supporting and encouraging his five children – Rick (Joan) of Williamsville, NY, Christine (Paul Kitchen) of Hawkestone, Ted (Valerie) of Brooklin, Louise (Ray Mackintosh) of St. Catharines, and Jeannie (Phil Mackintosh) of St. Catharines. He delighted in the successes of his grandchildren David (Gretchen) Clements, Suzanne Clements (Patrick Converse), Noah (Paige) Kitchen, Emma Kitchen (Zack Crafts), Leanna (Chuck) Lefebvre, Abby Kitchen (Peter Ewald), Matthew (Chez) Clements, James (Jeanne) Clements, Annaliese Mackintosh (Dan Leonard), Rosalie Mackintosh, Dorrie Mackintosh (Liam Cosby), Harry Mackintosh (Janessa Fitzpatrick), Lucie Mackintosh, and George Mackintosh. Also loved by his many great-grandchildren. Although an only child himself, he was happiest when he was surrounded by his large and noisy family. Sincere thanks from Bill’s family to the many devoted Nurses and PSWs and other health care providers for the kind and dignified treatment he received.
