Together, Craig and Marilyn built a beautiful family and a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Craig’s legacy continues through his daughters, Pam (Adam) Borton and Paula (Gino) Leone, who were the pride and joy of his life. Their relationships with their father were marked by deep affection, mutual respect, and shared moments of joy. Craig was a man who embodied the phrase “larger than life.” His presence was felt in every room he entered, his laughter was infectious, and his stories and jokes were legendary. He spent his summers going to horse shows, baling hay, enjoying the water sports on Consecon Lake, and every July 1st, attending the Kingston family reunion which started the year he was born, continues to this day (90+ years) and is the longest continuous running family reunion in Canada. His winters were filled with hockey starting when his sons were children and continued until Donald started playing for the Wellington Dukes and he became team doctor. He then continued as team doctor (his favorite hobby) for over 35 yrs, retiring on his 80th birthday. LeRoy was the Coroner for Prince Edward County for over 28 years, was Chief of Staff twice at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital as well as serving 4 years on the board of directors for the OMA. Over the years, he assisted with bringing many new doctors to the County. In 1987 he received a scholarship for ENT training. After over 30 years of general practice and the delivery of hundreds of babies, he retired and continued with his ENT practice. LeRoy loved to drive. He and Maureen drove an RV all over North America including a caravan trip to Mexico. LeRoy and Maureen loved to travel so much they purchased a travel agency. Cruises were the favorite way to travel. They travelled all over the world and even enjoyed a 79 day world cruise. During his later years he loved puzzling and his precious Toronto Blue Jays, Wellington Dukes and his Toronto Maple Leafs. EARL HENRY JOHN MAYVILLE – Passed away peacefully in Napanee Ontario on May 26th, 2024 with his daughters at his side. Earl was the father of the “Mayville Girls” (Karen (Brian St. John), Janet (Mitch Fortin) and Leslie (Jason Peterson). He was affectionately known as “Grumpy” to Cassandra (Pat), Brandon (Jamie), Andrea (Robert), Chloe, Lydia, Veronica, Keefe, Jian and Kayvon and Great Grumpy to Victoria, Bellamy, Quinn and Chase. It is very difficult to capture the essence of a man who was so complex but yet so basic in his needs. First and foremost, he was a Dad and he loved his daughters to the moon and back. Even though he would tell us that “Gertrude” was his favourite daughter, the three us knew that he was so proud of us. We were regularly told that whenever he spoke about us, he glowed. He was also so pleased with our choices in his sons-in-law, always referring to them as “good men”. Our Dad travelled around the world having joined the Canadian Navy at seventeen. He did so again later in his career after being awarded a free trip around the world on a military test flight as compensation for good performance. Post his retirement from the Canadian Forces, he was an agent and then manager for Century 21, a grounds keeper, a taxi driver, a commissionaire with the Corps and a school bus driver. Dad was a jack of all trades, master of none, but aware of the need to support his family. Even though Dad did not complete High School, he had a solid grasp of the English language, instilling a broad understanding of words in our youth. As young children he told us that the next time someone bullied one of us on the playground instead of using our fists we should use words. After his retirement Dad took English courses at Queen’s University. He was not a man of many words but when he did speak, his words had impact. For anyone who knew our Dad, they knew that he was sarcastic to a fault. Even though occasionally his sarcasm stung, it wasn’t meant to, he was just awkwardly and affectionately trying to be funny. He had a quirky sense of humour and you would know a zinger was coming when he’d get a twinkle in his eye and a smirk on his face. Then he would spend the next several minutes thinking about his delivery. Dad was a strong competitor in poker, darts and dice and he was someone who still believed that he had a chance of winning publishers clearing house and that Ed McMahon would come to his door delivering a big cheque. People may have said he was short, but he believed that the sidewalk was just built too close to his butt. Dad’s passing is not a loss as he continues to live in our hearts and we have a million wonderful memories of him. All we have to do is start sharing some of his stories with extended family and friends, and the room is full of raucous laughter. Our hearts are full and we are grateful that our Dad has been reunited with his Mom and Dad and his brother and sister; they are all playing dice right now. Cremation has taken place. A Service will be held on June 14th at 3:00pm at the Ainsworth Funeral Home, 288 Noxon Avenue, Wellington, ON. As expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society as Dad regularly contributed to both of these worthy causes. SANDRA ANN EDWARDS (nee Wood) – It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Sandra Ann Edwards (nee Wood). Following a brief illness, Sandra left us peacefully from Kingston General Hospital on May 23, 2024, at the age of 81. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Bill Edwards, and her daughters, Patricia Edwards (Bruce Pollard) and Shelley Heintz (Kenny). She will be greatly missed by her brother Don Wood and sister-in-law Kate of St. Ola, her brother Ron Wood of Bancroft, and her sister-in-law Deb Edwards of Caledonia. Sandra was pre-deceased by her brother, Jim Wood of St. Ola, and brother-in-law, Don Edwards of Caledonia. Sandra derived incredible joy from her nieces and nephews and their children. In lieu of her own grandchildren, she embraced the antics of her granddogs and grandcats. A proud graduate of the Peterborough Civic Registered Nursing program, she was a dedicated and respected pillar of the Emergency Department and Urology Clinic at the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital for over 35 years. Sandra and Bill made their home in Picton 50 years ago, where they raised their two beautiful daughters. In the County, Sandra was able to cultivate her interests in cooking, gardening, reading, the arts, travel…and the odd glass of wine! The strength of the relationships they forged with neighbours and friends throughout the County truly made this place home.
Spending time at St. Ola Lake was one of Sandra’s greatest joys, where the haunting sound of a loon call and the slap of a cabin screen door were the melodies of her ‘Happy Place’. The Woodpile and the Edwards Clan will miss her dearly. Details of the celebration of Sandra’s life will follow at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to the PECM Hospital Foundation Back the Build (www.backthebuild.ca) or to a charity/organization of your choosing would be much appreciated by the family.  Online condolences may be shared at www.ainsworthfuneralhome.com

CATHERINE DUNLOP – On May 10, 2024 with her loving family by her side, we said farewell to our fearless leader, the matriarch of our family, Catherine Dunlop after a bravely fought battle with cancer. Catherine lived her life to the fullest, with more spunk than a barrel of chili peppers. She was the 9th of 11 children born in 1938 to Yvonne and Arthur Vanheddegem in Hardwood Ridge, New Brunswick. The family moved to Ontario when she was 13, meeting the love of her life Harold when she was 17. He was smitten by her vivacious spirit, knack for witty one-liners, and her wicked sense of humour. Together, they raised 4 children; Wanda (Steve), Jenica (Jan), Nancy (Peter) and Mike (Elaine). Catherine took pride in her role as their mother. She was a real enforcer, who instilled the fear of God into those kids when it came to their minding their P’s & Q’s. She could get the truth right out of them by saying “I can read your eyes”. Catherine was an amazing homemaker. Whether it be baking from scratch or turning leftovers into meals fit for royalty – you would have thought her cooking came from Julia Child’s kitchen. Her legendary graham wafer pie could bring peace to the world. She may have measured with a pinch of this or a dash of that, but her secret ingredient was love. Knowing her way around a kitchen like nobody’s business came in handy when neighbourhood kids would knock on her door – they always knew where to find the best homemade snack in town. Everyone who came into her welcoming home could sit at the counter anticipating her to-the-point advice and anecdotes of comedic gold. Her laughter was contagious. If there’s one thing she taught us, it’s that life is too short to take things too seriously. She took on her role of grandmother with enthusiasm. She was a doting “Gramma” to Kandace, Matthew (Stephanie), Alyssa (Bryan), Lindsay (Riley), Weston (Georgia), Molly and Cole, and great grandmother to Drew and Theodore. Each one of them learned quickly that any game against Gramma meant that $100,000 was on the line. Sleepovers with her were always done in style, with a bowl of popcorn and a special outfit made out of Poppy’s t-shirt and a scarf to keep it from dragging. Any time her grandkids cried, she’d collect the tears and put them in her pocket, instantly putting a smile on their face. One hug from her filled your heart with love. Catherine had a heart of gold, always ending conversations with an “I love you”…or an endearing “keep your pecker up”. Beyond her wit and culinary skills, Catherine was a natural entertainer with a sharp tongue and impressive ability to tell stories. She was the queen of the card table, a master of scrabble, spirited curler, and undisputed champion of telling it like it is. She passed on important euchre lessons: we learned quickly to never sit between the counters; the 9 of spades would never be euchred; never send a boy to milk; and most importantly – not to sit in the bushes (otherwise you’d hear from her). Later in life she enjoyed playing bridge and her time volunteering with hospital auxiliary, where she made some of her most treasured friends and memories. In the weeks before she passed, she continued to make us laugh. Many “I love yous”, quiet moments, and tears were shared while she remained so brave. We are all incredibly grateful to have been able to reflect on countless memories with her. True to her character, she took care of all of us right until the end. We will miss our Mom, Gramma, and friend so very much, whose laughter echoed through every room she entered and whose spirit will forever live on in the stories we’ll tell for generations to come. Her humour knew no bounds and love knew no limits. Rest in laughter and know how loved you are. Heaven has gained the feistiest angel. In keeping with Catherine’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family Graveside Service will be held at a later date. If desired, donations to the PEC Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or a random act of kindness would be appreciated by the family. In Catherine’s words “that’s another job done”. Arrangements entrusted to the Ainsworth Funeral Home, 288 Noxon Avenue, Wellington. Online condolences may be shared at www.ainsworthfuneralhome.com

REGINALD DEAN GEMMELL – 1930 – 2024 – Our grandfather, brother, father, husband, and friend died peacefully at home in the early hours of Wednesday, May 1st, after living 93 full years.  Reg leaves behind his beloved wife Tina of 46 years, son John (Tracy), daughters Susan, Nancy (Glen), and Cathy (Mauro); his grandchildren Mara (Kevin), Elizabeth (Mark), Monica, Esther (Elman), Dylan, Jay (Taryn), Ezra, and Avery; and two lovely great-grandsons, Harrison and Ethan. Reg also leaves behind his beloved siblings: Bruce (Eira), Rod (Gwen), Greg (Helen), Janice (David) and many nieces and nephews. Reg was predeceased by his parents Art and Winnifred (Foster) Gemmell, and brothers Gary and Doug (Connie). Reg was born in Montreal, Quebec, the first child in his family. When the beginning of the Depression interrupted his father’s career, Reg and his parents spent his first few years living with the extended Gemmell family in Whitefish, Ontario. It was there that Reg developed his enduring love of Northern Ontario with annual visits to his grandparents as a child in the summers; working for his uncle Bill, a tourist outfitter on Lake Panache as a teenager; geologic mapping for mining companies during his University years; followed by family vacations with a family of his own. After seven years in Whitefish, Reg grew up in Sudbury, Port Hope, Toronto, Montreal and Ajax, with new siblings arriving along the way. His family was one of the first to live in Ajax during the war and stayed for a while where he developed lifelong friendships before the family settled at 143 Hastings Avenue in Toronto’s east end. Reg was a very proud graduate (1953) of Victoria College at the University of Toronto. After graduation he worked as a marketing executive in the Canadian major appliance industry (Inglis, Moffats, GSW, Camco and finally Whirlpool). Reg was also Chairman of the Canadian Appliance Manufacturing Association (CAMA) for over 45 years. He was very proud of his career which spanned five decades, and he continued to work on contract projects well into his 80s.  After retirement and a move to Prince Edward County, Reg became a Charter Member of the Wellington Rotary Club where he held the position of Club Secretary for many years and was honoured to become the first “Rotarian of the Decade”. He was an enthusiastic Rotarian and citizen of Wellington. He and his family are very proud of the interpretive signs he created for Wellington Beach.  Although he filled his retirement with Rotary, reading, learning and keeping up with politics and sports, his priority in life was his wife and family. Reg was the pillar of his family. He always put others’ needs ahead of his own and always made time for you. He was a man of integrity with a strong work ethic, a fountain of knowledge and a sincere gentleman. The family would like to thank David Manchester NP, Angel Ayson RPN, Anna Baldasti PSW and family and friends for their compassionate care, enabling Reg to stay at home, which is where he wanted to be. WOLFGANG WERNER SCHERER – Wolfgang Werner Scherer age 76, passed away at home in the early hours on Sunday April 14th, 2024. The son of a master tailor, amateur musician and thespian, he developed a love of music and performance at an early age. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany but music stole his heart. His professional aspirations led to multiple opportunities in the music industry from owning music stores and instrument repair services, to teaching various music lessons and performing as part of many bands over his lifetime. His keen acoustic sense allowed him to not only arrange his own music for production but that of many others as well. As a true renaissance man, he lived by the ethos to never stop learning. A dreamer to the end, may his songs echo brightly to inspire others to follow their dreams. He is predeceased by his wife Cornelia “Connie” Scherer, his brothers Dieter and Michael and his half-sister Dorothea. He is survived by his brother Hans Joachim, his six children – Stefan, Sabine, Susanne, Sebastian, Sybille, Svenya and their spouses – as well as his twelve grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Burke, ParaMed nurse Jennifer, Emily, Mike and all the other PSWs and the rest of his care team from across the multiple agencies who worked together to support him in his final days. Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time. Arrangements in the care of the Ainsworth Funeral Home, 288 Noxon Avenue, Wellington. SUZANNE MARGARET McGILL – (nee Brennen) – Passed away peacefully at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, Picton Ontario March 31st, 2024, at the age of 80. Loving wife and soulmate of the late Paul Wesley McGill. Treasured partner of Paul McVicker. Cherished Mom to Brian (Jennifer), Scott (Lisa), and Paul Jr (Erin). Wonderful Nanny/Nana to Hailey & Griffin, Noah & Josh, Macy Jane & Cash, and great granddaughter, Sasha. Born March 4th, 1944 to Margaret & Hugh Brennen of Napanee. Caring sister to Hugh Jr. Growing up a farm girl in the rural landscape of Napanee, Sue dreamt of the bright lights of the nearby city of Picton. Quiet and shy by nature, her beauty soon had suitors lining up for a chance to whisk her away from small town life. One such young man was Paul (Spur) McGill. A bit of a rogue by Napanee standards, he immediately swept young Sue off her feet, asking her to a dance on their first date. Oh, how she loved to dance! They shared their first kiss that evening in Paul’s 56 Chevy and so started a 44-year love affair. Of course, they were married and subsequently moved to the place of her dreams and started a family. Her prayers for 3 girls, Patricia, Leanne, and Paula were answered with the gift of 3 boys and those children became her world. As the boys grew up, feeding them on one income proved impossible, so Sue took a job as a secretary at North Marysburgh Public School. As the grocery bills continued to grow (26 quarts of milk in one week) and the boy’s friends began to call their 49 Washburn Street home, Sue then moved into the world of banking as a teller at CIBC, for almost 2 decades. If making and keeping friends was an Olympic event, Sue would have a gold medal. From childhood friends like Margie Holmes (75 years), to long time friends like the Stacey’s, Lockwood’s, and Weese’s (50 plus years), to work friends and new friends, she loved them all. “You can never have too many friends”, she often said. Writing poetry was a talent she had that few people knew about. A creative gift that allowed her to express emotion on paper when the testosterone-filled household, got to be too much! A well-known talent was her golf. She was the ladies club champion at 2 Golf courses, she played regularly into her 80th year, and incredibly finished 2nd in the 2023 Wellington ladies club championship. Always a fierce competitor, she hosted the McGill Masters Championship every year for herself and her 3 sons, sometimes fronting her boys up to 10 strokes and yet still took home the hardware! Sue lived a charmed life till the passing of her beloved Spur, but her strength and love of family and friends continued to shine through. With time she was able to move forward with her life and reach out to new people. Paul McVicker was welcomed into the family and remained Sue’s loving partner for the last 12 years. With him she was able to embrace her love of travel by visiting more than over 70 countries around the world, enjoying a cottage on Lake Ontario, a winter home in Florida and a wonderful community home in Wellington on the Lake. Most recently her passion turned to her grandchildren. Watching them play hockey, soccer or baseball, or drawing and singing, filled her with immense pride and gave her so much joy. If you weren’t lucky enough to know her well, perhaps this poem she wrote will help:
How lucky am I, that I have seen my children grow up and marry
Just yesterday you believed in Santa, ghosts and the tooth fairy
And now with children and wives of your own
I wonder where the years have flown
My life has been wonderful, with family and friends
My 3 boys have loved me and will to the end
This is one thing I’m so sure about
Never have I ever had any doubt
Raising boys is a challenge right from the start
But given the choice I would never part
With 3 wonderful sons, for 100 of the other
I have really loved being your mother
If I had one wish you might think me insane
I wish we could begin it all over again.
Love you guys
– Sept 1, 2013

SERGIO JAMES (Jim) DeVUONO – November 9, 1950 – March 30, 2024 – ‘First came the date of birth, followed by the date of tears. What matters most of all is the dash between those years.’
In the early hours of March 30, 2024 Jim passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Dody, his wife of 51 years, remained by his side throughout it all, ensuring the everlasting love and support continued to be present in those final moments. Jim was a man of few words, but many actions. It was those actions, talents, joys, adventures and passions, that summarize his dash to all who were lucky enough to experience them during Jim’s near quarter century. Those who knew Jim best made sure to recognize that his die-hard love of the Montreal Canadiens was unwavering and resolute. His consistent ‘Go Habs Go’ cheer, as he loyally wore his Habs jersey, was a joy to hear during any game. If the game wasn’t on, Jim was always looking forward to the next hunting or fishing trip to spend time with close friends in the great outdoors. The passion in his voice was joyous when he talked about ‘the one that got away’, helping you overcome a fear of putting a worm on a hook, or when describing how beautiful the ‘Starr Lake Hilton’ looked (his moose-hunting cabin) against the backdrop of the falling snow each October. Jim stayed occupied with sketching, puzzles, and the persistent ‘honey do’ list for home improvement projects. One of his biggest endeavours that showed off his handyman talent was building an entire home for his family. He also had a flair for cooking and there were several occasions we looked forward to his famous meatballs, lasagna and Caesar salad. As a dad, he supported all his family’s endeavours with pride. He proudly attended plays and performances, speeches and presentations, both watched and coached sports, and took great pleasure in being there for all of it. With all that was happening in his life, Jim’s quiet demeanour did not slow his volunteer-friendly spirit. This led to fulfilling and meaningful roles as a Scout leader and the Chair for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, happily giving back to the community that supported him. His accomplishments led to his being bestowed with the Queen Elizabeth II medal awarded to Canadians who made outstanding and exemplary contributions to their communities. Jim’s greatest achievement was his refusal to accept the short life expectancy he was given in 1989, and instead, beat all odds and turned that into 35 more years. His warrior spirit never faltered. His resilience was undeniable. His enduring lust for life was definite. He was a loving husband and partner to Dody for over 50 years, devoted father to Matthew and Jaimee, proud father-in-law to Sarah and Ben, and joyous grandfather to Nate, Jack, Willow and River. Jim was a thoughtful brother to Anna, Mario, Joey, Carlo, Julio, Michael and Johnny and was predeceased by his parents Rocco and Rita and brother Frank. Jim’s supporters and friends were numerous, especially Peter Albano who stood by through it all and was the very definition of a true friend for over 30 years, and Bill Beckett, his lifelong hunting and fishing partner and friend to the end. A loyal and supportive family man when he was with us, we take comfort in the fact that his heaven consists of unlimited peaceful fishing moments, taking time to prepare the perfect meatball and watching his beloved Habs win the Stanley Cup, year after year.
Amidst the tears that softly flow, his lengthy journey, his dash did grow. Through love and resilience, his legacy thrives, touching hearts, echoing in countless lives. We will miss you more than you know.
Special thanks to all the people and medical staff who helped Jim over the years, most especially Dr. Annette Hay, Tracy, Dr. Reynolds and everyone at Friendly Manor Nursing Home who demonstrated compassion and care during his final months. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that donations be made to Friendly Manor Nursing Home Resident’s Council. Arrangements in the care of the Ainsworth Funeral Home, 288 Noxon Avenue, Wellington, ON. A Jet T-33 trainer sat in our dooryard which attracted the many visitors. He belonged to several clubs including the Quint Flywheels, which he was one of four who started it. His homemade tractor which Morley Friar put together was in many parades in many towns. His most beloved toy was his Yamaha Road Star with sidecar, he drove for 350,00 kilometres.  Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of his life at Demorestville Church Hall on Saturday, February 17th from 1:30-4:00 p.m. Memorial Donations to the Loyalist Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.
