Born on June 15th, 1934, at home on Cold Creek Road in Hillier, Ruth began her teaching career in 1953 with the Toronto Board of Education, where she taught Grade 1 at Clinton Street Public School for six years. In the early 1980s, after raising her family, Ruth returned to the workforce and worked on the Precious Metals floor at the Bank of Nova Scotia’s head office. Ruth married Douglas A. Crawford on October 10, 1953. Together, they embraced a life of adventure, moving frequently as Doug advanced in his banking career. Their journey took them to Halifax and Chester, Nova Scotia; Markham; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Peterborough; Etobicoke; London; and back to Toronto. After Doug’s retirement, they lovingly restored the old Foster family farmhouse in Hillier. Following Doug’s passing in 2001, Ruth relocated to Wellington. Years later, Ruth reconnected with Peter H. Naylor, whom she had first met as a teenager while working at a summer hotel in Presqu’ile. Their paths crossed again much later in life, leading to a cherished partnership until Peter’s passing in 2018. Ruth later settled in Picton. Ruth’s interests reflected her vibrant spirit. She cultivated beautiful gardens at every home, earned her private pilot license in 1970, and was a founding member of the Anahata Drumming Group in Picton. She was deeply involved in her community, supporting Friends of the Wellington Library and Friends of the Wellington Museum, which housed the Douglas A. Crawford Canning Collection. She also was a lifelong member and served on the local executive of the Federated Women’s Institute of Ontario. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Sherman and Eva Foster; her beloved husband, Douglas A. Crawford; and her dear partner, Peter H. Naylor. ROBERT CLUETT – November 18, 1932 – May 9, 2026 – Robert (Bob) Cluett, born November 18, 1932 in Manhattan, NY; died at Hospice Prince Edward in Picton, Ontario on May 9th, 2026. Celebration of life to be held June 7th, 1pm, in the Highline Hall at the Wellington and District Community Centre, 111 Belleville Street (CR2), Wellington. Bob was predeceased by the love of his life, Thayer Bodman Cluett (2022) and by their beloved granddaughter, Gosia Gwynne-Timothy (2016). Bob is survived by three daughters, Helen Cluett (Francis Cadeau), Marjorie (Marc) Seguin and Holly (Gordon) Gwynne-Timothy and their, Bob and Thayer’s, niece Amy Bodman (John Sanders), whom he called “a child of my house”, as well as seven grandchildren (Philip and Daniel Seguin; John, Kasia and Hannah Gwynne-Timothy; Emily and Elizabeth (Jack Waine) Sanders) and one great-granddaughter (Sirena Gill). He is also survived by his brother-in-law Richard (Karna Small) Bodman. Bob, known in the family as “Unc”, a title of which he was very proud, will be much missed by nieces and nephews, Catherine Belden (Jim Nail), Dorothy Anne Bodman (Harvey Nosowitz), Marie Louise (John) Petrie, Taylor (Willa) Bodman, and Jim Bodman, as well as by his Ahlborn godchildren Eleanor, David and Seth, and all their families. Bob became a Canadian in 1973. A multiple graduate of Columbia University (BS, MA, PhD), he never lost that New York-er verve. Bob described himself as having lived “a good life, a long life and a blessed life.” He was very blessed in his many friendships and he cherished those friendships. That quality of engaging with those around him was notable until the end – greeting each of the nurses and PSWs and others who cared for him by name and expressing gratitude for their care. One of his most formative experiences came during his service in the US Coast Guard, when, at age 23, he became the Commanding Officer of a LORAN station in Cape Atholl, northern Greenland. His thirteen months in this isolated Arctic station taught him much about the wind and water, the march of the seasons and his own response to the midnight sun and noonday darkness. Bob loved Prince Edward County for its beauty, its challenges and its opportunities. He and Thayer bought a farm on Huyck’s Point Road in 1987 and moved there in 1989. He embraced life here with his characteristic passion and extraversion, quickly becoming an identifiable character in Wellington – often with one of his beloved dogs (Shep, Sheba or Sola) riding shotgun. In his last weeks, as Bob reflected on his life, he said the accomplishment of which he was proudest was the establishment of the LORAN Scholars Foundation, originally known as the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation (CMSF). The vision, passion and persistence that he brought to that enterprise were remarkable. His success with this Foundation was the product of a vision developed during his 30+ years as a teacher, first as a Master at Kent School in Connecticut and then as a Professor of English at York University in Toronto, and his 30+ years of service as a Trustee of the Morehead Foundation, now the Morehead-Cain Foundation, a scholarship program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. As a teacher, Bob was very interested in why students had difficulties and how best to help them. This applied also to his coaching of sports. His most rewarding experience coaching was of the women’s squash team at York University (1979-1986). As his former players report, he was a “most revered and dedicated coach.” Bob was a writer, to the core. His discipline of writing every morning, whether prose, poetry or correspondence, continued through 2023. He produced textbooks and other academic writing, while writing poetry and prose in which he explored existential questions of human fallibility, mortality and injustice. His family memoir, The Gold of Troy: an Inquiry into Family Mythology and Personal History, was at once a lament and a searing examination of transgenerational traits and tendencies. His most popular writing was about wine. He described the little volume Making Homemade Wine as “my only best-seller”. And, for years, he graced many people’s Inboxes with the e-mailed “Fortnightly” newsletter, under the nom de plume “Chief Sipping Bull”. This was a much-enjoyed publication that blended budget-conscious recommendations from the latest LCBO offerings with his extensive knowledge of vintners and viticulture, relayed in a playful, even exuberant, style. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Sarah LeBlanc and to the exceptional staff of Hospice Prince Edward, as well as to the staff at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital and to Dr Amolins, and – last but certainly not least – to the kind and supportive staff at Seasons Dufferin Centre in Trenton and their Health and Wellness Manager, Angel Andrus. The family would also like to thank Archdeacon Nancy Northgrave for her sustained support to Bob and the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice Prince Edward or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements in the care of the Ainsworth Funeral Home, 288 Noxon Avenue, Wellington, ON. DAVID GETHIN EDWARD – November 14, 1938 – April 5, 2026 – It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of David Gethin Edward on April 5, 2026, at the age of 87, following a stroke while receiving cancer treatment. David was born on November 14, 1938, in Montreal. He was predeceased by his parents Allan Gethin Edward (d. April 1980) and Marie Hélene Estelle Richard-Edward (d. March 1990), and by his brother, Richard Kenrick Edward (d. May 1999). He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of nearly 65 years – and best friend of nearly 68 years – Lynn Edward (née MacPhee), whose partnership and companionship were the foundation of his life. David leaves behind a proud and close-knit family: Son: Gregory Kenrick Edward (Julianne Catherine), and their sons Kyle Kenrick (Hanna) and Casey Alexander (Marlee); Son: Richard Daniel Edward (Bonnie Louise Miller), and their son Griffin Samuel Alexander; Daughter: Lisa Marie Edward (Sean DiPede), and their children Willeom Andrew (Lucas & Wyvern) and Lauren Gabrielle. Dave’s early life was shaped by movement and adventure, growing up in cities across Canada as his father flew for Trans Canada Airlines. That same passion for aviation took hold early. At just 17, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, flying aircraft such as the Chipmunk, Harvard, C-45 and T-33. At the age of 19, David began his lifelong career with Trans Canada Airlines—later Air Canada—where he would dedicate nearly 41 years of service. Over the course of his distinguished career, he flew a wide range of aircraft including the F-27, Viscount, DC-8, DC-9, L-1011 (Chief Pilot), B-707, B-720, B-727 (Chief Instructor), B-767, and B-747-400. In 1960 Dave was furloughed from TCA and moved to Ireland to fly for Irish International Airlines, now Aer Lingus. He was engaged to Lynn at the time and after Lynn had received her RN from the Royal Victoria Hospital, he returned to Montreal to get married so they could start their lives together near Dublin. They returned to Montreal and Air Canada in 1965. In 1968, Dave accepted an assignment and was seconded to Air Jamaica for their initial start up. He and Lynn packed up the entire family and moved to Kingston for a 2 year adventure. Dave’s greatest passion in aviation was instruction. He was a gifted, skilled and respected teacher who took immense pride in training and mentoring pilots. A respected leader among his peers, David served as a Union Councillor and negotiator for the Canadian Air Line Pilots Association and helped organize the first version of the Pilot Assistance Program. In 1995, he co-founded the Air Canada Pilots Association, (ACPA), and was its first President. He left a lasting legacy in pilot advocacy and welfare. He retired on December 1, 1998, with over 30,000 hours of flying time—a remarkable testament to his skill, discipline, and love of flight. He was proud of his aviation achievements, in particular his legacy of being the first 4 generation family of pilots in the world to fly for a major airline, Air Canada. Captain Gath Edward, Captain Dave Edward, Captain Greg Edward, First Officer Casey Edward. Beyond aviation, David had a deep love of music, with an eclectic taste spanning folk, rock, reggae, and classical. He played the harmonica and was known to serenade his passengers over the aircraft PA system—an unforgettable touch of personality at 35,000 feet. Unfortunately, he couldn’t carry a tune with a bucket…though he did try. In retirement, David and Lynn embraced life fully. From their beloved home near Picton, he could be found primarily on his Kubota satisfying his grass cutting fetish, shuttling his grandkids in the tractor bucket perilously high at full extension, or flying his Progressive Aerodyne SeaRey amphibious ultralight. He was a fixture in the skies over Prince Edward County. He shared his passion for flight with his grandchildren whom he adored. “Grampy Dave” to them. He taught each of them to fly. His grandson Casey went on to become a professional aviator, following in his father’s, his grandfather’s and his great grandfather’s footsteps, while his eldest grandson Kyle Kenrick contributed to aviation infrastructure building and renovating airports. David also gave generously of his time through volunteer work with Air Cadets, Meals on Wheels, and Corrections Canada. Dave was an environmentalist for causes like protecting animal habitat and a recycling practitioner long before it was in vogue. He was an end of life advocate and support to many friends and colleagues who were in their final days. He was a strong proponent of MAID, (Medical Assistance in Dying), in particular the right to MAID Advanced Approval, which turned out to not be necessary for him. Together, Dave and Lynn spent over two decades of winters exploring and living along the beaches of the Sea of Cortez in Baja, Mexico, embracing a life of freedom and adventure. He counted on Lynn for translation as his Spanish speaking abilities were atrocious. His command of French wasn’t much better, but he never let that deter him from trying. David, Lurch to some due to his deep bass voice, will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality—He had an omnipresent smile and was funny, gregarious, mischievous, warm, and endlessly engaging. He had a gift for connecting with people, sharing stories, and making those around him feel welcome. He was a shameless flirt and an unabashed nudist, much to the embarrassment of his children. But what a great tan. He leaves behind a legacy of family devotion, leadership, mentorship and a lifelong passion for flight. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. In keeping with Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Private Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held in the Summer of 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (www.pecmhf.ca), Medicin Sans Frontiers (https://action.msf.ca), or A. B. Smith Homestead House Hospice (https://providencecare.ca/ hospice/hospice-residence/) would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Rushnell Funeral Homes – Picton Chapel, 33 Main Street (613-476-2450). Online condolences: www.rushnellfuneralhomes.com

MARIANNE PATRICIA MALACHOWSKI –  It is with heavy hearts we announce that our Mother Marianne Patricia Malachowski (born 1935) passed away in the comfort of sleep Thursday March 12, 2026 surrounded by family members in the PEC Memorial Hospital, Picton following a sudden illness. Marianne is deeply mourned by her children Margaret, Nancy, Christine, and Michael Malachowski and his wife Connie Graham and her children and grandchildren. Our Mother Marianne will be best remembered for her generous, humble, and indomitable spirit having taken into her care her much younger half sister and raising four children on her own working as a nurse. Our home was a hub of social activity. Growing up, it was natural for neighbouring kids to gather and play at our place. Everyone loved Mom. The door was always open to friends, neighbors who would drop in, strangers too. All were welcomed with warmth and hospitality. There was always room at the supper table for an extra plate. When she retired as a nurse and moved to Picton it came as no surprise then that she chose to open her house as Marianne’s B&B, treating guests to elaborate hot breakfasts and sharing stories of Prince Edward County’s history and unique features. Marianne’s generosity of heart was further reflected in her strong sense of community which drove her inexhaustible volunteerism. For example; she was past chair of the PEC Museums Board where she spear-headed one of its most notable fund raisers – The Antique Road Show; a Master Gardener and active member of the PEC Horticultural Society; an advocate and volunteer at PEC Hospice; member of Picton Hospital Auxiliary providing refreshments in the dialysis unit; delivered food for Meals on Wheels; greeted patrons at the door as volunteer with Friends of the Regent Theatre, to name but a few ways Marianne enjoyed connecting and sharing with others. Marianne enjoyed the lively fellowship at Emmanuel Baptist Church Bloomfield. Members may well remember Marianne as a permanent fixture in the kitchen, preparing and serving food for the many occasions, as well her time in the nursery. It was Marianne’s firm belief, one she instilled in us, “you can never outgive. It always comes back twofold, in abundance”. It was the secret of Marianne’s ability to do and give so much with so little. That conviction, born of her strong faith in a loving, forgiving, and generous God, carried her through life till the very end when her last words were, “It’s time, I’m ready to go, thank you”. Marianne was grateful for Donna and all the other PSWs whose care supported her in her last years to remain in the comfort of her home. We wish to express our heart of gratitude also for Homemaker Sabrina, for her sunny ways, clever meal ideas and willingness to pick up groceries. We commend the paramedics, physicians, and nurses at the Picton Hospital, including Dr. Elliot, Dr. Hayward-Stewart and Nurses Sydney, Megan, and Sierra for their excellent compassionate care. A Celebration of Life for Marianne will take place Sunday, March 29th, 2026 from 1 -4 pm at the Waring House, located at 395 Sandy Hook Road, Picton. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Prince Edward would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Ainsworth Funeral Home, 288 Noxon Avenue, Wellington. Online condolences may be shared at www.ainsworthfuneralhome.com

BRIAN HYATT – 1939–2026 – Passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22nd, 2026 at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, Picton, surrounded by his wife and children. A loving husband and devoted father, Brian will be deeply missed by his wife, Lorraine, and children, Regan and Keely. Born March 29th, 1939, in Toronto to Pearl and Jim Hyatt, Brian spent his early years in Toronto and Aldershot. Brian was incredibly close with his cousin Carole, whom he considered a sister and loved deeply. He took great pride in being an uncle to her three boys—Craig, Eric, and Corey—whom he loved very much. Brian’s teenage years were spent in Georgetown, actively playing sports like football and tennis and debating politics — a family pastime he relished. He formed a lifelong friendship with Phillip Wade, a connection that lasted the rest of his life. Brian attended Ryerson University, where he studied Electronic Technology, sparking a lifelong interest in electronics and the “tinkering” he will be fondly remembered for. During this time, he discovered Muskoka, a place he called “God’s Country.” With a band of like-minded friends, including dear friend Gary Acker, he established himself at Hiawatha, a lively cottage and boathouse known for its gatherings. It was at Hiawatha that Brian met Lorraine. They married in 1970 and continued to spend much of their time in Muskoka. Brian took particular pride in giving his children the experiences that place offered—boating, fishing, and learning to navigate and respect the outdoors. Sharing Muskoka with Regan and Keely was something he valued deeply, and those times on the lake became some of the most meaningful parts of their family life. Brian and Lorraine relocated to Picton in 2005. Brian loved the county and embraced the rhythm of county life. He found camaraderie and humour at PFAC with a group of retired men he affectionately referred to as “the old farts squash club.” He also formed new friendships with neighbours who became an important part of his and Lorraine’s life in Picton. The family would like to thank the staff at PEC Memorial Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care of Brian in his final days, and the community at Saint Mary Magdalene Church for their continued kindness and support. A Celebration of Life will be announced and held later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation. DIANNE F. BAKER – March 29th,1939 – January 3rd, 2026 – It is with loving gratitude for a life well-lived, we share that Dianne F. Baker of Belleville (formerly of Wellington), Ontario died peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Dianne was 86 years old. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, John, her loving children Glenn (Sheryl), Kevin (Dusty), her grandchildren Scott (Lin) and Stacy, her sister Sharon (Owen), her sister-in-law, Marlene (Alex), and was predeceased by her parents William and Hilda Brady of Whitby, Ontario. Born on March 29, 1939, and raised in Whitby, Dianne had many passions from teaching, knitting and crafts to dancing and gardening. Dianne graduated from teacher’s college in her early twenties, during which time she met John, whom she married in Whitby on December 18, 1965. They moved to Unionville, Ontario in 1967. In 1969 Dianne put teaching on hold to focus on being a full-time mother until both Glenn and Kevin were attending school full-time, at which time she began teaching again as a substitute teacher. That eventually led to her ultimately and by overwhelming popular demand, becoming a full-time teacher once again years later. She was enormously proud to have been a grade-school teacher, and one who was greatly admired by her students and her peers. She retired from teaching in 1995 and along with John established themselves during their retirement years in Wellington, Ontario, or in “the county” as she would often say, where they spent nearly 30 of their years together. Dianne was always active and engaged in her community. Whether it was designing and sewing costumes for skating shows, coaching softball, church activities and organizing social events such as line-dancing in her retirement, Dianne was always there to happily be involved however possible. Dianne endured a difficult life due to Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Regardless, she was resilient and persevered with love throughout her life. Her bellowing laugh, admiring smile, dancing shoes, knitting needles and hand-made gift cards will all be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at the Wellington United Church, 243 Main Street, Wellington on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to immediately follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honour of Dianne Baker can be made to Lupus Canada or the Arthritis Society of Canada. NINA VANDERLINDEN (nee Biniowsky) – Born in Winnipeg, MB, the daughter of Michael and Dorothy Biniowsky (nee Slobidnyk), proud Ukrainian Canadians who supported their children’s interests in music and art. Nina showed an early talent in drawing and sculpture, and art was a constant in her life.  In her teens, she also showed a gift for singing, with a rare and rich contralto voice. She received vocal training in Winnipeg and even auditioned for the Metropolitan Opera Company where she was offered but declined a training opportunity in New York.  She was hired as contralto soloist at Westminster United Church in Winnipeg where her voice impressed everyone, including choir member Graham Vanderlinden, a young medical student. Nina and Graham eventually married and moved to Biggar, SK to start Graham’s practice and begin a family. The young family later moved to Toronto where Graham began a residency in neurosurgery.  The family was complete with the birth of their third child in Toronto. Through the years, Nina served as contralto soloist at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Holy Blossom Synagogue and Forest Hill United Church in Toronto.  She also sang in the Canadian Opera Company (COC) chorus and performed the role of Erde in the COC’s 1972 production of Wagner’s Siegfried. In 2000, when she retired from singing, she went back to her artistic roots, studying with a local Polish-Canadian artist.  She found great pleasure commuting weekly from her new home in Picton for her classes. She revealed a freedom of expression in her many evocative paintings of Canadian landscapes and natural spaces many of which are proudly displayed in our homes. She attributed her love of nature, trees and quiet places to having spent summers visiting her Baba’s farm in rural MB. Nina suffered a major stroke in November 2020 just after her 90th birthday. While she managed with home care, she couldn’t continue painting and eventually required care outside the home.  She passed away peacefully at HJ McFarland home in Picton on December 26th, 2025, after a short illness. She was predeceased by her parents and beloved brother Morris, a violinist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and sister-in-law Sonya.  Nina will be dearly missed by the love of her life, husband (of 69 years) Graham, daughters Loren (Marwin Viegas, grandsons Cameron and Joshua) and Kimberley (Peter, granddaughter Juliette, grandson Christian), son Stewart (Angela), and her sister-in-law Kathy from Victoria.  She also leaves loving niece Tatiana Morita (Glenn), nephews Gregory and Ilya Biniowsky (Tanya) and their children. We are grateful to the staff at HJ McFarland and Blessed Bridges for the excellent care and kindness shown to Nina in her later years. A Celebration of Nina’s Life will be planned and announced in the spring. Memorial Donations to the PEC Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Opera Company would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements in the care of the Ainsworth Funeral Home, 288 Noxon Avenue, Wellington. Online condolences may be shared at www.ainsworthfuneralhome.com
