Born February 18,1922, in Bosanksi Novi, Bosnia, she was the daughter of the late Vukica and Vasilije Jankovic. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Harry Ferris. Together they operated Ferris Textiles in Ajax, Ontario, after a daring escape to freedom in Canada from the former Yugoslavia in 1952. Her only sibling, a sister Mina of Croatia, preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving son, Fred Z. Ferris, and his wife Keltie of Virginia, 3 grandchildren: Sonja Florman, Charles Ferris, and Keltie Ferris, 3 great-grandchildren: Ferris, Henry and Lola Florman, and a niece and nephew, Hrvoje and Gordana Perkovic of Croatia. LORRAINE HAAGSMA – Passed away suddenly at the Ottawa Civic Heart Institute on Friday, January 14th, 2011, Lorraine Haagsma, of Wellington, in her 70th year. Loving wife of John Haagsma. Dear mother of Lisa Carter (Dan), John Jr. (Jennifer), Jason and the late Roger Haagsma. Remembered by grandchildren Travis and Tyler Carter, Benjamin Haagsma and Lauren Haagsma and great grandchildren Riley, Thalia and Mickayla Carter. Survived by her brother Chuck Adams. Lorraine was well known throughout the community through her volunteering and her time at the Wellington Arena canteen. As per Lorraine’s wishes cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Ainsworth Funeral Home, Wellington, ON * * * RODNEY CECIL ANDERSON – January 3, 2011 – Peacefully in Picton, husband of the late Margaret, father of Brian (Arlene) of Vancouver and the late Jim (Wendy) of Picton, grandfather of Jessica, Brent, Natalie and Rachel, brother of the late Ed (Aida), Les (Helen), the late Dorothy (Ken) Brown and Pat (Charlie) Tomlin, brother-in-law of Donald (Betty) Southwick, Lorraine Southwick and Dorothy (Joe) Babiak, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Born in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario on October 4, 1919 and raised in Nipissing Junction, as a young man, Rod rode the rails and worked in mines and construction camps across Northern Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1939 and was radio operator in the R.C.H.A. First Canadian Division in Sicily, Italy, Holland and Germany until 1945. Rod enjoyed working with his hands and built a cottage in Lake Simcoe, a house in Scarborough and his dream home on Lake Ontario in Wellington. He was an avid reader of history, a gardener and grower of apples. A family memorial will be held at a later date. Rod’s family wishes to thank the staff at Hallowell House for their compassion and excellent care.
