Two new COVID-19 cases; 2,186 vaccinations

FEB. 28 – Two new COVID-19 cases were recorded – in Belleville. With recoveries, the active cases remain at 16.

There are nine cases in Belleville, three in Deseronto and two each in Tyendinaga and Quinte West.

FEB. 27: Five new COVID-19 cases were reported in Belleville. There are now 16 active cases – nine in Belleville, two in Quinte West, three in Deseronto and two in Tyendinaga.

A four-case outbreak in Belleville Feb. 25 and a two-case workplace outbreak in Centre Hastings posted Feb. 24 continue.

FEB. 26 – With four new, there are now 16 COVID-19 cases recorded on the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health dashboard. The number of vaccines administered is now 2,186.

The four new cases were recorded in Belleville, Centre Hastings, Deseronto and Tyendinaga. Of total cases, six are in Belleville, five in Deseronto, two in Quinte West and one in Centre Hastings.

FEB. 24: Four new cases of COVID-19 were noted – one in Belleville and three in Deseronto.

With recoveries, there are 14 active cases – eight in Belleville, two in Quinte West, and four in Deseronto.

FEB. 23: Three new cases of COVID-19 were registered today – one in Quinte West and two in Belleville.

There are 13 active cases – eight in Belleville, two in Quinte West and one each in Centre Hastings, Deseronto and Prince Edward County.

There have been 1,946 vaccines administered.

Two unrelated cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in students at Prince Charles Public School in Trenton and Deseronto Public School. HPE Public Health is contacting all high-risk individuals directly. Families of students considered at low risk for COVID-19 exposure have received a letter from the board.

FEB. 22: No new COVID-19 cases were recorded for Feb. 22 and Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has updated the number of vaccines administered to 1850.

There are 12 active cases in the Hastings Prince Edward Region – six in Belleville, one each in Quinte West and Centre Hastings and two each in Prince Edward County and Deseronto.

FEB. 21: No new COVID-19 cases were reported Sunday by Hastings Prince Edward Health. There are now 12 active cases – one in Quinte West and Centre Hastings, two in Deseronto and Prince Edward County and six in Belleville.

HPEH advises that anyone who shopped at Shoppers Drug Mart on Dundas Street East in Belleville on Feb. 14, 17 or 18 may have had low risk exposure to COVID-19.

A person who was at the store on those dates tested positive for the virus. Public Health is identifying all high-risk contacts related to the case. Low risk contacts are not required to isolate unless symptoms develop.

FEB. 20: A resident of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory recently diagnosed with COVID-19 has died and is the sixth death in the Hastings Prince Edward region related to the virus. The five prior deaths were recorded last spring.

The Tyendinaga Mohawk council expressed great sadness and extended condolences to families and friends of those who are grieving.

It noted council had learned in the week prior of three cases of COVID-19 on the territory.

“We recognize the continued efforts of everyone to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus over this past year, and while acknowledging the recent decline in the number of active cases across the country along with vaccinations beginning to be distributed, we want to remind everyone that we still have a long road ahead of us. With the province and surrounding communities reopening businesses, as well as the possibility of new variants of the virus, we cannot stress enough how important it is that all community members continue following Public Health guidelines. Our main priority remains community safety and we are all dependant on one another to continue to do our part.”

Friday, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reported three new cases, 13 active. The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte website notes one active case and two recoveries.

FEB. 19: Hastings Prince Edward region moves into the weekend with three new COVID-19 cases – one each in Quinte West, Belleville and Deseronto.

There are now 13 active cases in the region.

Feb. 18: One new COVID-19 case was recorded in Belleville today, but with recoveries, the active case count remains at 11.

There are currently three cases in Belleville, two in Deseronto and Tyendinaga and one each in Prince Edward County and Centre Hastings. One case not showing on the dashboard map, but yesterday was listed in Prince Edward County.

FEB. 17: Two new cases were reported in Belleville, but with recoveries, active cases remain at 11.

There are three cases in Belleville, two in Prince Edward County, Deseronto and Tyendinaga and one each in Quinte West and Centre Hastings.

FEB. 16: One new COVID-19 case has been reported in Centre Hastings. There are 11 active cases – one in Quinte West, three in Belleville and two each in Deseronto and Tyendinaga and Prince Edward County.

There have been 1,483 vaccines administered.

FEB. 15: No new COVID-19 cases were recorded Monday. With recoveries there are now 11 active cases – four in Belleville, two in each of Tyendinaga, Deseronto, Prince Edward County and one in Quinte West.

FEB. 14: – Two new COVID-19 cases were listed Sunday – one in Prince Edward County and one in Deseronto. With recoveries, the active cases have dropped to 12. There have been 1,379 vaccines administered.

FEB. 13 – One new COVID-19 case – in Prince Edward County – was recorded by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health.

With recoveries there are now 13 cases – with two in Quinte West and Tyendinaga, seven in Belleville and one in Deseronto.

FEB. 12 – Three new COVID-19 cases were recorded Friday – two in Belleville and one Deseronto. One case is outbreak related. There was one case declared at Trent Valley Lodge long-term care home in Quinte West Feb. 10.

There are now 15 active cases – three in Quinte West, eight in Belleville, one in Deseronto and three in Tyendinaga.

FEB. 11: Four new COVID-19 cases were recorded Thursday in Hastings Prince Edward – two in Belleville and two in Tyendinaga.

There are now 13 active cases – seven in Belleville, three in Quinte West and three in Tyendinaga. There have now been 381 cases since the pandemic began.

FEB 10: Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reported one new COVID-19 case in Quinte West. With one recovery, there are nine active cases – three in Quinte West, five in Belleville and one in Tyendinaga.

Meanwhile, the first case of one of the three COVID-19 variants has been reported in the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit in a person who resides in Northumberland County.

FEB. 9: Four new COVID-19 cases were recorded Tuesday by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health – two in Belleville, one in Quinte West and one at Tyendinaga.

That brings the tally to 10 active cases in the region – six in Belleville, three in Quinte West, and one in Tyendinaga.

The seven-day case rate is now at 4.7 per 100,000 population and a .2 positivity rate.
Moving into the ‘green’ protect zone as of Wednesday, the region must maintain a weekly incidence rate of fewer than 10 cases per 100,000 people. The test positivity rate must be below 0.5 per cent.

FEB. 8: There was one new COVID-19 case in Hastings Prince Edward recorded Monday in Belleville, and now six active cases – four in Belleville and two in Quinte West.

The provincial government announced Monday afternoon the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health region will move to the least stringent ‘green’ phase of re-opening on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

It is one of four public health units with few cases of COVID-19 no longer subject to the stay-at-home order, along with Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington and the Renfrew County and District Health Unit.

FEB 7: One new case of COVID-19 was recorded Sunday in Hastings Prince Edward – in Belleville. There are now five cases in the region – three in Belleville and two in Quinte West.

FEB 6: One new case of COVID-19 was reported in the region – in Quinte West – bringing active cases to four.

There are two cases in each of Quinte West and Belleville. The active cases since last year are at 370.

FEB 5: One new COVID-19 case has been declared by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health – in Belleville. With one recovery, the active cases remain at three – two in Belleville and one in Quinte West.

The total case load since last year is now 369.

FEB 4: No new COVID-19 cases were reported for Hastings Prince Edward, but active cases are set at three – one in Quinte West and two in Belleville.

FEB 3: One new COVID-19 case was reported in Belleville. There are now three active cases, one other in Belleville and one in Quinte West.

FEB 2: No new COVID-19 cases were recorded and two active cases remain in Hastings Prince Edward counties – one each in Quinte West and Belleville.

The number of vaccines administered is now 1,096.

FEB 1: One new case of COVID-19 was recorded by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health, in Quinte West, bringing active cases to two; the other located in Belleville.

Total active cases since last year are 367.

The dashboard  has updated vaccines to 1,000 administered – to residents and staff of long-term care homes, and front-line health care workers.

As of Jan. 31 Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing and Air Transat will be suspending flights to typical winter travel destinations – the Caribbean, Mexico, and other sunny locales – until April 30, 2021.

Beginning today, all flights incoming to Canada will be landing at Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto Pearson International and Montréal-Trudeau International airports.

In the coming weeks, individuals returning to returning to Canada will also be required to undergo mandatory PCR COVID-19 testing at the airport. Following this test, individuals will be relocated to an approved hotel for a three-day period to await their test results. The cost of this stay, anticipated to be approximately $2,000, will be assumed by the individual.

Individuals who then receive a negative COVID-19 test result will be able to return home to complete their quarantine period. Individuals who receive a positive COVID-19 test result will be relocated to a designated government facility to undergo their isolation period.

Further, in the coming week, all non-essential travelers will be required to show a negative COVID-19 test before entry at the land border with the US.
