One of Ontario’s best known ornithologists to share avian tales – October 20

Ron Tozer

Retired Algonquin Park naturalist Ron Tozer will share avian tales at the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory (Peptbo) fall fund raising dinner later this month.
Tozer is author of the recently published Birds of Algonquin Park, a compilation of his 40 years of field work. The book offers detailed accounts of all 278 birds known to Algonquin, including information on migration timing, nesting habits and behaviour of the 144 breeding species.
Hear Tober Saturday, Oct. 20, from 6-10 pm at the Waring House in Picton. Tickets $65 by calling 613 476 7492 x 2652.
Tozer is one of Ontario’s best known field ornithologists and a charter member of Ontario Field Ornithologists.

“Many of Canada’s prominent scientists and conservationists benefited from Ron’s mentoring when they were summer naturalists in Algonquin Park,” said Rosemary Smith, of Peptbo. “OFO members appreciate Ron’s depth of ornithological knowledge and his willingness to impart it to others on field trips and in his articles in Ontario Birds and OFO News.”

He was co-editor of Ontario Birds for 16 years from 1991 to 2006 as it evolved into one of North America’s leading ornithological journals. He currently serves on the Ontario Bird Records Committee and was chair for five of his 14 years on the OBRC.
