The PECI Panthers girls hockey team had a tough battle Monday with an end of regular season loss to the St Theresa Titans 3-2 but they’re ready to move on to Bay of Quinte action Thursday.

Hailey Snider skates through the offensive zone.

Monday’s game opened with both teams going back and forth, each getting a few chances. An early Titans penalty gave the Panthers an opportunity to score the first goal but they were shot down and the Titans scored short-handed 17 seconds into the penalty.

During the second period, Panthers were determined to tie up the game though were unable to connect with the net. The Titans were also being shut down by goalie Maddy Rowbotham’s management of pucks and rebounds. It wasn’t until half way through the period that the Titans scored their second goal of the game. The Panthers started to push back, and with a minute-and- a-half left, Hailey Snider scored the first marker for the Panthers, with an assist from Bella Cole.

The Titans scored again early in the third period. The Panthers didn’t let up and a couple minutes later, Brooke Jackson scored the Panthers’ second goal of the game. Both teams played well during the rest of the third, however the Panthers were not able to tie up the game.

The team moves on to Bay of Quinte action, where the top four teams compete against each other. They play Thursday, March 1 at 9 a.m. at the Duncan Mcdonald Memorial in Trenton.
