Passport to enjoy Canada’s championship wines benefits Picton hospital

THIS JUST IN: There will be a “Barrel Toasting” demonstration by our very own County Cooper, Peter Bradford, between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday during the barbecue and Instant Rivalry’s set.  A “Toasting” conditions the inside of the wine barrel with fire prior to wine use. There are eight different levels of Toast, depending on the wine maker’s style and the type of wine going in to the barrel.

Help the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation celebrate its 30th anniversary with a toast.

The foundation has partnered with the Rotary Club of Picton to host the All Canadian Wine Championships “Passport to Canada” tasting event.

This event is set for Saturday, July 25, 2015, 2-5 p.m. at the Crystal Palace at the Picton fairgrounds. The tasting will feature 750 wines from across Canada and will cost $35 for 15 pours if you buy in advance. Tickets at the door will be $40.

“These wines are sourced from the recent judging of the All Canadian Wine Championships (ACWC) and this event offers the perfect opportunity for avid wine lovers to sample wines not normally accessible,” said ACWC Director, Bev Carnahan.

Following the tasting, an outdoor barbecue will be available to the public at a cost of $15.   Megan and Caleb Hutton, sister and brother duo behind the award winning band, Instant Rivalry, will be lending their musical talent to the celebration between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m.

Net proceeds from this inaugural event will benefit the hospital foundation’s current $350,000 Life Saver Campaign for medical equipment.

“We are thrilled to have been selected as the recipient of these Canadian wines,” said Hazel Lloyst, director of development for PECMHF. “Knowing we would need extra help and expertise for this inaugural event, we are really pleased to partner with the Rotary Club of Picton.  The location, the wines, an outdoor barbecue and the music of Instant Rivalry is sure to make this a wonderful 30th anniversary celebration, County style”.
