‘Paws’ for thanks at County hospital

Foundation Executive Director Shannon Coull thanks Fran Renoy and her canine companion, Nikita, a Malamute, for their ‘pawsome’ gift to the Foundation’s holiday appeal.

There was a ‘paws’ for celebration Tuesday when long-time Hospital Foundation supporter, and retired X-ray Technologist Fran Renoy and her trusty sidekick Nikita stopped by the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation office to give a donation on behalf of Nikita’s dog mom, Andie Wiens.

Andie raised $100 for the Foundation’s medical equipment fund selling cookies and cheese wafers at the Making Spirits Bright Holiday Bazaar held at the Wellings of Picton Saturday, Nov. 24. This gift comes hot on the heels of Fran’s personal donation to the Foundation’s Christmas campaign, made last week.

This year the Hospital Foundation needs to raise $255,000 to pay for essential equipment needed for use now at the current hospital.

Renoy notes she and Nikita are hoping they can count on everyone in the community to make a gift to the Foundation this holiday season to keep the hospital well-equipped for every person in Prince Edward County.

From heart monitoring systems and defibrillators to the scopes the Regional Endoscopy Centre needs, the list of equipment the PECMH Foundation is fundraising for is extensive. The County’s hospital is also in need of a new stretcher for ultrasound procedures, a ventilator for the emergency department, a vital signs monitor for use when patients are transported to other hospitals and infusion pumps.

“These are all crucial to caring for people at PECMH,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation. “Thank you to Fran, Nikita and Andie and to all our amazing donors for their ‘pawsitive’ support of our Christmas appeal so far. New donors are always welcome and there are numerous ways to be involved. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference in the care you and your family receive.”

Donor support is vital because medical equipment is not paid for by the government. Hospitals need their communities to help equip them, through donations to the Foundation.

Those who would consider giving a gift to the hospital this holiday season can get more information by visiting www.pecmhf.ca or by calling Briar at 613-476-1008 ext. 4425 or stopping into the Foundation office inside the main entrance of PECM Hospital, Monday-Friday, 8a.m. to 4p.m.
