With the long weekend not yet over, Prince Edward County OPP Detachment Commander, Staff Sergeant John Hatch reported early Sunday that officers have been kept busy on land and in the water.
“There was a serious call near Nicholson Island yesterday where a canoe capsized with three people in it,” he noted. “All were wearing life jackets and made it to shore – one with help from the fire department.”
Hatch also noted there were 30 motorists stopped for various infractions including three impaired drivers.
A full report will come after the weekend from Const. Aaron Miller, who shared a few photographs on social media related to marine patrols.
“Leave the beer on the pier this long weekend and don’t forget your life jacket,” he noted with one photograph showing alcohol with a boat.
While some boaters were not moving safely on the water, Miller noted six “positive” tickets were issued to children for wearing proper personal flotation devices while on West Lake.
