PEC Women’s Day celebration connects girls, inspires futures

The beating of drums and Jeanette Arsenault’s ‘Women of the World’ song opened the eighth annual celebration of International Women’s Day, at the Picton Town Hall Thursday night. Arsenault also provided back up vocals for a song with daughter Katie Shannon. A panel of young County women discussed the future of feminism under the theme ‘Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures’.
Mayor Peter Mertens paid tribute to the talented women and role models of Prince Edward County who drive young women to be creative and innovative and make changes.
“Our young women today are the future. They’re the ones who are going to make changes, with eduction and information and the power of social media they are going to change this world,” said Mertens. “We need to challenge ourselves to work at creating that environment to allow these people to nuture and reach their objectives.”
