Pirates’ win streak at seven games

The Picton Pirates (12-4-0) extended their lead at the top of the Empire B Junior C League Standings to seven points with a game in hand over the second place Port Hope Panthers (6-6-5).  The Pirates are finding ways to win both at home and on the road and are currently riding a personal seven-game win streak at home that dates back to Sept. 29th and have won 10 of their last 11 overall.
The Pirates picked up an important 7-5 win Thursday night over Port Hope.  The Pirates attack was led by 16-year-old Abbott Girduckis’s first career hat trick.  Tyler Kearns, Scott Boultbee, Mitch Rosborough and Pat Millington all had single tallies in the win.
Goaltender Matt Kaludis picked up his league leading 9th victory on the season.  GM/Head Coach Ryan Woodward was happy to get the win but didn’t like how the team played in the third period.
“It’s hard to complain when you get the job done, but I told the players after the game we need to stay focused and close games out and not build bad habits when playing with a lead,” Woodward said. “We have found ways to win three games in 10 days against a very good Port Hope team. We will take the two points and learn a valuable lesson at the same time.”
On Sunday, the Pirates took to the road and defeated the host Amherstview Jets 6-2.  After allowing the opening goal against, captain Mitch Rosborough scored his first of two goals on the night when he tied things up in the first period on an unassisted shorthanded goal.  The goal marked Rosborough’s 100th career point as a Picton Pirate.
Pat Millington had the hot stick in the second and third periods as he registered his first career hat trick, while Girduckis added a single marker to seal the road victory for the Pirates.
Goaltender, Andrew Pearson made 36 saves as he picked up his third win in as many appearances.
Woodward was much happier with his team’s performance in the third period on Sunday.
“The guys worked hard to the final buzzer. We executed the game plan and finished the job.  It was a complete team effort, every line provided energy and our defense did a fantastic job taking care of our own end,” Woodward said.
The Pirates will look to extend their season best seven game win streak overall when they take visit the Napanee Raiders Tuesday night at 7:30pm. Support the Pirates Thursday Nov. 17th as they host the Amherstview Jets at 7:30pm. in Picton.
