Elks support APC at hospital

CHEERS! to the Wellington Elks Lodge #566 for presenting the PECMH Foundation with $200 toward the purchase of an Argon Plasma Coagulator for the Operating Room. An Argon Plasma Coagulator or “APC” is an effective technology used in endoscopy procedures. The procedure involves directing a small jet of argon gas or plasma with a special probe that can be passed through a gastroscope or colonoscope. This technology is valuable in treating ulcers and small, flat bleeding lesions or polyps found in the gastrointestinal system during colonoscopy or gastroscopy. The development of this technology over recent years has generated excitement because of its effectiveness and safety. Although not used with every procedure, the equipment is a key feature of the endoscopy service at QHC Prince Edward County where more than 2,000 endoscopy procedures are performed annually.

CHEERS! to supporters of the QHC Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Christmas Appeal. Hanging an ornament tag on the Christmas tree in the lobby at Picton hospital is Eleanor Johnston (centre). She made a donation toward the Foundation’s Christmas Appeal in memory of her late husband, Howard. This year’s Christmas Appeal is raising funds for an Argon Plasma Coagulator (APC) for the operating room at a cost of approximately $85,000. Fundraising is half way there…thank you! An APC is used in endoscopy procedures which involves directing a small jet of argon gas or plasma with a special probe that can be passed through a gastroscope or colonoscope. It is extremely valuable in treating ulcers and small bleeding lesions or polyps found in the G.I. tract during a scope.
