Quinte Conservation closes all trails during clean up from ice storm

The ice storm that moved through the Quinte region over the weekend has caused damage to many of Quinte Conservation’s trails, forcing a temporary closure of each conservation area.

Trails in Prince Edward County include Beaver Meadow, Little Bluff, Macaulay Mountain and Massassauga Point. Field operations staff are working to clear hazard trees, but this will take time as there are over 73 km of trails throughout the 13 conservation areas that Quinte Conservation manages.

The Conservation Authority is asking the public to respect the temporary closure. Staff may be using heavy equipment to move downed trees and other debris.

The authority owns more than 30,000 acres of land throughout the 6,000km2 watersheds throughout the Moira River, Napanee Region, Salmon River and Prince Edward Region for the purpose of preserving and protecting valuable lands and ecosystems.

Some of those properties are conservation areas that are open for public use and collectively make up 73km of nature trails.
