Members from 426 Transport Training Squadron plan critical night flight search-and-rescue capability training overnight Thursday and Friday, Sept. 26-27.
The two CC-130J Hercules aircraft expect to be in the air between 21:00 p.m. and 00:00 a.m. in the vicinity of Canadian Forces Base Trenton and Canadian Forces Detachment Mountain View.
“This type of training is essential for maintaining the skill of aircrews, and enhancing their readiness to safely execute Canadian Armed Forces missions around the world, often under challenging conditions,” states Capt. Hrayr Karageozian, 8 Wing Trenton Public Affiairs Officer, in a media notice. “It is important that these proficiencies are maintained in Canada, so that our aircrew are prepared to execute these manoeuvres in potentially life-threatening situations.”
Karageozian notes flights performed by Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) aircraft are carefully planned and closely controlled for public safety and are dependent upon weather and flying conditions.
The CC-130J Hercules is a four-engine, fixed-wing turboprop aircraft that is used for a wide range of missions, including personnel transport, search-and-rescue, tactical airlift and aircrew training.
