Record-breaking donations of food ‘Cram the Cruiser’

Participants helping to fight hunger made a record-breaking difference this weekend.

The “Cram the Cruiser” event for the Storehouse Wellington Food Bank, in front of Wellington Foodland saw local OPP members thanking the public for stuffing a cruiser full of food.

“Our previous record was around 265 bags (which can be purchased for $5) and today, we ended up with just over 425 bags,” said Staff Sergeant John Hatch, Prince Edward OPP Detachment Commander.

Hatch noted Wellington Food Bank executive director Linda Downey and her team of volunteers (Cynthia, Trevor and Nick) “were amazing, helping ensure the bags kept coming.”

Special mention, he adds, for constable Danielle Boudreau who helped lots of people, and especially children, by accepting donations, and filling the OPP truck with those bags

“It was literally overflowing by the time we were done,” said Hatch. “Our goal for next year is to exceed 500 bags and plans are already under way. I think I’ll be bringing Two OPP trucks next time.”
