Benson Park in Picton is now open to the public following several months of revitalization work.

The project, which began in late 2017, included the replacement of the existing staircase, pathways, pathway lighting, site furnishings and new signage.

The municipality also reconstructed the tennis court to be a multipurpose court, which now accommodates tennis, pickleball, road hockey and basketball. The multipurpose court has been resurfaced and is now open for public use.

The Barker House in Benson Park now includes a public washroom.

Funding for the $237,000 project awarded to Scott Wentworth Landscape Group, along with a $94,000 tender for the washrooms, was boosted with a $133,200 Canada 150 Grant presented last March by Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis. The remainder is to be drawn from the municipality’s capital sustainability reserve and efforts to connect with community and service groups.

An official opening event is expected to take place early this summer.
