Schools to remain closed at least until May 31

School remain closed to May 31

Students will still be able to complete their year, but schools will remain closed until at least May 31.

Sunday, Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced the closure was based on advice from the Chief Medical Officer of Health and health officials on the COVID-19 Command Table and is part of the government’s ongoing effort to stop the spread of the virus.

“The government is taking a careful approach which provides our medical experts the time to review the modelling and make the best decision for the safety of our students and the future of learning,” said Lecce.

Students are continuing on-line learning and are promised they will receive final grades regardless of whether schools open again this year.

The government first closed schools in Ontario just before March Break and extended the closure to May 4. The closure may be extended further.

Hastings Prince Edward School board families and students are able work online through the board’s HPEDSB Learning at Home website.

The board website, www.HPEschools.ca contains current information, including tips sheets for families and educators, links to public health agencies, and perhaps most important, contact information for Kids Help Phone.
