Heather Seybold passed away in 2011, in her 90th year, but her lifetime of community participation and service continues.

Community Care for Seniors has received a donation of art works by Seybold to be sold to help raise money to support seniors who live at home, as Heather did when she delivered Meals on Wheels.

The window of the Thrift Shop at 153 Main Street in Picton will have her oil paintings in various sizes on display from Monday, March 23 to Saturday, March 28th.

“We are honoured to receive these works by artist Heather Seybold,” says Debbie MacDonald Moynes, executive director of Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors. “Heather Seybold was an enthusiastic and dedicated artist whose vivid outdoor scenes, painted over six decades, portrayed her love for the County, her native Quebec, and the Maritimes.”

She raised five children (including Dr. David Seybold, of Picton), worked as a librarian, and pursued an Arts degree at Concordia University in Montreal. Heather moved to Bloomfield with her husband Herbert, in 1990.  An avid reader and life-long learner, she also attended Queen’s University as a mature student.

“Always a willing volunteer, she made many friends through The University Women’s Club, the Women’s Institute and St. Mary Magdalene Church,” said MacDobnald Moynes. “She was a costumed guide at Macaulay House, and, with her late dear friend Bill Pettit, was a volunteer deliverer of Meals on Wheels.”

The colourful, energetic and evocative paintings reflect the enthusiasm she felt for community and family life, literature, art and travel, and her many long-lasting friendships.

The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association offers services such as Meals on Wheels, transportation to medical appointments, noon-time dinners for seniors, foot care, help with forms (including Income Tax), respite for caregivers, home maintenance, rural route reassurance and telephone reassurance programs.

The agency is partly funded by the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care through the Local Health Integration Network and supported by donations and community fundraising efforts, such as Community Care’s Thrift Shop at 153 Main Street in Picton.
