Slippery and wet all the way to the checkered flag

Racing action at Brighton Speedway went unhindered by the story skies on Saturday, July 24th.  The drizzly rain and overcast skies couldn’t keep the race fans away or the drivers at home and the crowd was awed by the action on the track as Deerhaven Farm & Garden and Lange & Fetter Ford brought the fans an awesome night of action.
With threatening skies and impending showers management decided that against all odds the race program would go on.  With a late afternoon shower almost drowning even the most optimistic official the program went off without a hitch.  School Buses, Stock Cars and 4 Wheelers hit the 1/3rd mile slick oval to the awe and fascination of the most dedicated dirt track fans in Ontario.  As the night progressed, umbrellas popped up and down but the racing action continued undaunted.
To start the nights events Brighton Speedway inducted 4 new members to the Wall of Fame, recognizing the contributions of individuals who have greatly contributed to the success of the speedway and to grass roots motorsports in general.  Gene Gunter; Ambassador, Kirk Mowat; Driver and Pit Crew, and Shelly and Earl Gregory; Driver & Ambassador, were the 2010 inductees.
The feature action began with the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 division taking to the track and a hard fought battle for the checked ensued.  With bumper bouncing action throughout the 20 laps of racing the final black and white checkered flag was handed to #66 Mark Packer with his first feature win of his career.  He was followed by #01 Brandon Gregory and #27 Nathan Day to round out the top 3.  Packer’s checkered flag earned him the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the week honors.
The Bainer’s Radiators Canadian Modified Division it was a familiar face of Dan Ferguson returning to victory lane after two weeks without a win as #11 Dan Ferguson from Picton returned to victory lane, last weeks winner #42 Adam Nayler came home second and #8 Terry Loxley crossing the finish line third rounded out an exciting Canadian Modified feature race.
The Motorsports of Trenton Flat Track 4 Wheelers were on scene for their second race of the 2010 season.  A total of 10 four wheelers were on hand to enjoy the fast tacky track but as mother nature started to spit on the track again through out there feature it forced the drivers to take different lines and in the end it was #75 Mathew Pynenburg, fining the fast way around the track followed by #41 Ryan Lambert and #17 Shawn Waite.
Leon’s Trenton School Bus Feature was forth on the docket and provided the thrill everyone expected!  Fourteen full size school buses took the green flag and the chaos began.  It didn’t take #D3 Deano LeClair long to come from his third place starting spot to take the lead from #325 Blair Freeman, Leclair had full control of the whole race through two cautions and right up to the last lap when #8 Bob Green made it 3 wide coming through turn 4 to pass LeClair and a lapped bus and beat Leclair by about half of a bus length at the checkered flag.  #24 Rick Sopaz rounded out the top three with a third place finish starting from 14th.
Quinte Towing Stinger hit the track fifth and nearly went green to checkered as #41 Mike Fletcher picked up his third win of the season, and the #06 Steve Wells and #37 Taylor Conroy rounded out the top three.
Brighton Automotive Pro Stock Finish saw #72 Doug Anderson of Trenton come from his 15th place starting spot to battle though traffic for his 5th win of the 2010 season.  Anderson inherited the lead on a lap 17 restart when #91 Kraig Handley the leader at the time broke an axle going into turn one and took out himself and second place runner #15 Sean Johnson of Wolfe Island.  In the end it was Anderson followed closely by the #83 of Jay O’Hara and #46 Warren Mowat.
The racing action will continue this Saturday, July 31st as CBM presents the second Figure 8 race of the 2010 season.  The night will also feature Race 4 of the Humber Nurseries King of the North Country Pro Late Model Series with Can Am as well as the Bainer’s Radiators Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks and the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 Divisions.
