Students stitch together a history lesson

Prince Edward Collegiate Institute Grade 10 Venture program History students presented quilts they made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 78, Picton and to veteran Russ Burrows, a 60-year-member who served in Dieppe in 1942. Greer Koutroulides’ students created quilt squares in honour of Canada’s contributions in the first and second world wars, then combined the squares into two quilts.  One will be displayed in the Legion’s museum and the other was presented to Burrows. After the formal presentation photograph, the students asked Mr. Burrows questions about his service to his country and he in turn thanked them again for their warm and memorable donation.

This man is so deserving of any recognition concerning his time spent as a prisoner of war, and his service to our Country. To know this gentleman, is to love him, he is one great human being, who continues to serve our County and Country. What a great tribute to him, and he will be so pleased. God Bless.

  3. That is so amazing. It is so important to recognize and keep alive the memory of all veterans past and present. Achievements and sacrifices made by those who serve Canada in defence of freedom, and the contribution to its development as a Nation. Well done everyone. Proud we are!
