Hike for Hospice Sunday, May 7 – indoors if poor weather

UPDATE!! GOOD NEWS! The forecast is for rain and cold temperatures, but that won’t deter the PEC Hike for Hospice. The Prince Edward Community Centre staff has assured that if the weather is horrible, hikers can do laps on the arena pad – INDOORS!

Hikers, runners, strollers, ramblers and wanderers are uniting to support Hospice Prince Edward in its sixth annual Hike for Hospice event.

On Sunday, May 7, Prince Edward County residents and friends will join thousands of people across the country to raise funds to support people living with progressive life-limiting illness, their loved ones and caregivers. The County’s hike supports the community residential hospice at 40 Downes Avenue in Picton.

Teams and indivuals are invited to participate at this year’s event being held at the Prince Edward Community Centre. Entertainment, a barbecue and remembrance area will feature. The hike will progress down Picton’s Main Street. There are 2K, 5K and 10K routes planned.

Hospice Prince Edward announced Wednesday that Chestnut Park Real Estate Limited, Brokerage, has come forward as a multi-year key sponsor for the hike.

“Our Prince Edward County team is thrilled to be playing a key role in this wonderful annual fundraising event that supports such an essential and valued asset of this community,” said Richard Stewart, Chestnut Park Vice President, Legal Counsel.

Peter Matthewman, Board Chair, Hospice Prince Edward Foundation welcomed the sponsorship, saying “We are very grateful to Chestnut Park for their generous support of this important annual fundraising event. One hundred percent of the funds raised at this hike will remain in our community to help Hospice Prince Edward continue to provide compassionate care to those facing their end-of-life journey, as well as a wide range of grief and bereavement programs and services to families and individuals of all ages in Prince Edward County, all at no charge.

Hike for Hospice is also supported annually by the County, The Reasons, Picton Rotary, Wentworth Landscape Design and BMO Picton.
