Take steps to support Hike for Hospice

Hospice Prince Edward Community Development Director Melanie Dailey with her family taking steps for fundraising for the Hike for Hospice campaign.

Hospice Prince Edward is joining hospices across the country gearing up for a second annual virtual “Hike for Hospice” fundraising campaign to raise much-needed funds for free-of-charge palliative care for those who are ill, dying and grieving.

“Hike for Hospice brings our community together in the spirit of celebration and remembrance,” said Melanie Dailey, of Hospice Prince Edward. “And 100 per cent of the funds raised in Prince Edward County will remain in our community.”

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, participants will again this year be walking, hiking, skateboarding and baby-carriage pushing on their own, and joining in together for a virtual celebration.

“Hikers are invited to participate at their chose time, in their chosen way, and share the details of their hike through social media or email using the hashtag #hike4hospicepec,” said Dailey. “We are encouraging hikers to take 10,000 steps for Hospice in honour of our 10th Hike anniversary. For those riding, paddling, jumping, sprinting…10,000 is approximately 5km.”

Fund raised are used to deliver high-quality, compassionate palliative care in the three bedroom residential Hospice at Picton, train and assist visiting volunteers who care for ill and dying clients and their families at home; offer ongoing grief and bereavement support, and provide the community with resources and expertise for advanced care planning.

“Together we can ensure that the residents of Prince Edward County will have access to the quality of care they not only need, but deserve through their life journey.”

Pledges can be submitted anytime between now and June 30th. Support others who are participating, put a team together, or challenge another team by clicking here to visit the Canada Helps.org page
