Wellington’s Community Centre will be transformed into a cobbled street in ‘The City of Light’ for Hospice Prince Edward’s second Autumn Leaves Gala in support of the new residential hospice.

In its inaugural year, Autumn Leaves was both a grand evening and success raising $90,000 for the new hospice at 40 Downes Ave., Picton.

“This year’s Gala Committee has chosen a theme that will provide an exciting canvas on which to build on the Autumn Leaves Gala,” said co-chairs Dr. Josh and Que Colby. “The theme this year is inspired by ‘The City of Light’ and focuses on the romance of a cool Paris evening – food, wine, music, lights and auctions.

“The decorating team is already well afoot performing the magic that filled the room in last year’s gala. The menu is being created with the fastidious attention to detail that only the French bourgeois could apply to food,” added the co-chairs. “The Entertainment Committee is working out a repertoire that one would expect to hear sitting in a cafe in Paris.”

The gala committee is also organizing silent and live auctions. The group is dependent on creativity and donations from community members and businesses.

‘We would be thrilled to discuss any gifts – however small or large – that people may like to contribute as auction items,” said Linda Middelton, organizer with Denise Richmond. “The variety of contributions last year made for a diverse collection of auction items where almost everyone could find something of particular interest to them. We hope to do the same this year. If you have any ideas, please get in touch with us.”

All funds raised at the gala will directly support the community residential hospice.

Since last year’s gala, Hospice Prince Edward has been able to purchase and renovate the property.

“The hospice home is now serving the purpose which we have been working toward – providing a home environment where we can provide the best end-of-life care for our community,” said Nancy Parks, Hospice executive director. “We could not have done this without the enthusiasm and engagement of this community.”

Tickets for the Nov. 16th event are now on sale by calling the hospice office or requesting the tickets online at hospiceprinceedward.ca

The ticket cost is $150 and a charitable receipt of $75 will issued for each ticket purchased.
