Three more lives lost to COVID-19; high risk setting cases rising

MARCH 30: Three more lives have been lost, connected to the COVID-19 pandemic. There are now 48 deaths recorded in the region since the pandemic began two years ago.

Hastings Prince Edward high-risk setting COVID-19 cases rise again with 116 new cases for 251 active high-risk setting cases. There ae now 11 outbreaks – one just added facility wide at the MLP Residence outside Picton. The remainder are in Quinte West and Belleville.

There are 17 people in hospital, two in intensive care.

MARCH 28: Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports an increase of COVID-19 related cases in hospital – now at 16 people, with two in intensive care. It reports 108 new high-risk setting cases. There are now 209 active high-risk setting cases. Eight outbreaks continue.

MARCH 25 – There were 87 new high-risk setting cases reported, raising the active case load to 233. There are also three more people in hospital, now at 10, with two in intensive care. One outbreak has been resolved, leaving eight active.

MARCH 23 – There were 105 new high-risk setting cases reported, raising the active cases to 220. There are nine high-risk setting outbreaks in Belleville and Centre Hastings. Seven people are in hospital, four intensive care.

MARCH 21 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports 72 new high-risk setting cases, but a drop in active high-risk setting cases to 185 over the weekend. Eight outbreaks continue.

There are three more people in hospital, now at 11, with one person in intensive care. The HPEPH reports one more death, but the number of deaths since the pandemic began, remains at 45 due to updated data.

MARCH 18: There were 96 new high-risk setting cases recorded, bringing the active high-risk setting case load to 210. Eight people are in hospital, three in intensive care.

MARCH 16: One death related to COVID-19 has been recorded – now 45 related to the two year old pandemic.

New high-risk setting cases have also increased to 87 bringing active high-risk setting cases to 179.

There are seven people in hospital, two in intensive care.

As community mass vaccination clinics wrap up this month, 146,491 (85 per cent) Hastings Prince Edward residents have had one vaccine dose; 136,687 (79 per cent) two doses and 88,391 (51 per cent) have had the booster shot.

The remaining clinics at the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main Street) are:

The last dates clinics for clinics in Picton and Belleville are Thursday, March 31 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Prince Edward Community Centre and from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre (closed 4:30 – 5 p.m.)

MARCH 14: One more death has been recorded by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health, but one also taken way due to updated recording, leaving the toll at 44 since the pandemic began two years ago.

There are nine people in hospital related to COVID-19; three in intensive care. There are 72 new high-risk setting cases reported for an increase of five to active high-risk setting cases at 175. Six outbreaks in high-risk settings remain – five in Belleville and one in Centre Hastings.

MARCH 11: Reported COVID-19 cases in Hastings Prince Edward rose slightly.

There are now 10 people in hospital, three are in intensive care. There are 75 new high-risk cases and 170 active cases. Seven outbreaks continue: at one congregate living facility in Central Hastings, three in Belleville and three at Hastings Manor in Belleville.

MARCH 9 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports fewer new and active cases in high-risk settings, and fewer hospitalizations.

Its dashboard reports 56 new and 151 active high-risk cases. Seven outbreaks continue. There are nine people in hospital, down from 17 Monday. Three people are in intensive care.

Meanwhile, walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinics will continue Thursdays throughout March at the Prince Edward Community Centre in Picton from noon to 6 p.m. People aged five and over who are eligible for their first, second or third dose of the vaccine are welcome without an appointment.

MARCH 7: Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is reporting 64 new COVID-19 cases in high-risk settings, but with recoveries, the active cases in high-risk settings have dropped to 162 over the weekend.

Outbreaks in high-risk settings have dropped to eight. There are still 17 people in hospital, three in intensive care.

Dr. Ethan Toumishey, HPEPH Medical Officer of Health and CEO, emphasized at last week’s board of health meeting, that as the province gradually reopens, COVID-19 continues to circulate in the community.

While everyone is looking forward to a gradual return to normal, Dr. Toumishey urged the community to remember that there continue to be risks related to infection with COVID-19 and the virus is still leading to significant illness, hospitalization, and death. ”

MARCH 4 – Another three deaths related to COVID-19 were reported in Hastings Prince Edward. The three bring the pandemic death total to 44, with five deaths reported this week.

The Hastings Prince Edward Public Health dashboard reports hospitalizations have dropped to 17 with three people in intensive care. The 12 outbreaks in high-risk settings remain, along with 54 new high-risk setting cases and 183 active high-risk setting cases.

MARCH 2 – Two more deaths related to COVID-19 have been recorded and more are in hospital, as more indoor setting restrictions were lifted in the province today.

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports two deaths, for a pandemic total of 41 in the region. There are 23 people in hospital – four more than Monday. Two people are in intensive care. Outbreaks in high-risk settings remain at 12.

There were 81 new cases in high-risk settings for an active case load in high-risk settings at 191, down from 342 on Monday.

FEB. 28 – There are fewer new and active COVID-19 cases recorded, but more people reported in hospital.

The Hastings Prince Edward Public Health dashboard records 25 people are in hospital, two in intensive care. There were 68 new high-risk cases for a total of 237 active in high-risk settings. There are still 12 high-risk setting outbreaks.

FEB. 25 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports another death related to COVID-19, now 39 since the beginning of the pandemic. There are two fewer people in hospital, at 19, including two people in intensive care.

There are fewer new high-risk setting cases recorded since Wednesday at 100, but outbreaks in these settings have doubled to 12. There are 342 active high-risk setting cases.

FEB. 23: One more death related to COVID-19 has been reported in statistics for the past five days (no report filed on Monday Family Day holiday). The Hastings Prince Edward Public Health COVID-19 dashboard now records 38 deaths over the course of the pandemic. Hospitalization numbers remain the same at 23 patients, two in intensive care.

There were 167 new high-risk setting cases recorded, however with recoveries, the active high-risk setting case numbers have are down five from last report, to 359. There are fewer outbreaks in high-risk settings, at six. The last recorded were four cases Feb. 16 at Belleville General Hospital Quinte 6.

FEB. 18 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports two more deaths related to COVID-19 and an increase of 10 hospitalizations since Wednesday.

HPEPH dashboard records 37 deaths since the pandemic began and today, 23 people in hospital, two in intensive care. There were fewer high-risk setting new cases reported, at 92, since Wednesday and fewer active high-risk setting cases, at 364. There are also fewer outbreaks continuing, down to nine.

FEB. 16 – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is reported three deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the count since the pandemic began to 35. There were 107 new high-risk cases reported, but a slight decrease in the number of active high-risk cases, now at 379. The number of outbreaks in high-risk settings has fallen to nine, from 11 reported Monday.

There are 13 people in hospital related to COVID, two in intensive care.

Beginning Friday, youth aged 12 to 17 will be eligible to receive a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine 168 days after receiving their second dose.

A special pop-up clinic will be held on Family Day — Monday, Feb. 21 — from noon to 4 pm at the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main Street).

People aged five and over who are eligible for their first, second or third dose of the vaccine are welcome to attend the vaccine clinic in Picton without an appointment on Family Day. Walk-ins should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the end of the scheduled clinic and should bring their Ontario health card.

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports 84 new high-risk cases and 381 active cases. There are eight people in hospital, two in intensive care. There are still 11 outbreaks in high-risk settings.

FEB. 11: Since Wednesday, two fewer people are in hospital related to COVID-19. Nine are in hospital, two in intensive care.

Active high-risk cases are up to 402 from 384 Wednesday, as 99 new high-risk cases were reported Friday.

HPEPH reports 78 per cent of the counties’ population has received two doses of the vaccine while 50 per cent have received a booster.

FEB. 9 – One additional death related to COVID-19 has been recorded by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health as high-risk cases, hospitalizations and outbreaks show increases over Wednesday’s reports – though all are significantly lower than in January reports.

There are 144 new high-risk cases, increasing the active case load to 384. There were five new high-risk outbreaks, now at 16, which includes five congregate living outbreaks in Prince Edward County. There are 11 people in hospital, one more than on Wednesday, with two people in intensive care. There have been 32 deaths related to COVID-19 recorded over the course of the pandemic.

Vaccination clinics at Prince Edward Community Centre will accept walk-ins for all eligible individuals aged 12 and over. Children aged 5-11 must book an appointment.

FEB 7: Reported hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are up over the weekend to 10, from 7 Friday, with two people in intensive care. There were also more high-risk cases reported, at 108, but the active case load in Hastings Prince Edward has gone down to 311 as have outbreaks, to 12.

FEB. 4 – Reports of high-risk COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations reports are down in Hastings Prince Edward counties.  Public Health recorded 86 new cases, 331 active cases Friday, while high-risk outbreaks continue at 14. Hospitalizations were reduced by half, to seven, from Wednesday’s report. There are no people in intensive care, related to the virus. The number of deaths related to COVID-19 has been reduced by one, to 31, changed as cause data becomes available.

FEB. 2 – The Hastings Prince Edward Public Health COVID-19 dashboard reflects 100 new high-risk cases and 346 active cases in the region.

There are 14 people in hospital, down from 16 on Monday, but up from 13 last Friday. Two people are in intensive care.

Noting the count of deaths is subject to change as cause data becomes available, it lowered the number of deaths since the pandemic began to 32, from 33 Monday and 36 last Friday.

There are 14 outbreaks in high-risk settings, down from 15 Wednesday and 18 last Friday – including four in congregate living facilities in Prince Edward County.

Dr. Ethan Toumishey, HPE Medical Officer of Health told the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health board yesterday that “while we are beginning to see a decline in cases of COVID-19 among high-risk health care workers, as well as hospitalizations, the pandemic is not over.”

He thanked the community for continuing to follow public health measures and encouraged anyone who is not fully vaccinated or has not received a booster, to do so as soon as possible.
