7th Annual Civilian Brigade – “Your Poppy is the Only Uniform Required”
With Poppy Campaigns in full swing across Canada leading up to Remembrance Day ceremonies on November 11th, the church service and parade in Wellington, ON will again include citizens marching in place of those Veterans who can no longer physically parade. An invitation is issued to citizens of Wellington and District to join the Civilian Brigade.
Commenting on the event’s sustainability, Bob Stock of Branch 160 explains, “For the past several years it has been most gratifying to note how deeply moved our Vets have been when they see the wide range of people who turn out in respect for those who served and those who fell in the service of Canada. In addition to individuals, there are entire families marching, including Veteran’s sons, daughters and grandchildren. When the Civilian Brigade is dismissed, the public applauds, which signifies to me their appreciation of the opportunity to participate in a Remembrance Day ceremony.”
For those who wish to “Join the Wellington Civilian Brigade,” the invitation assures that “Your Poppy is the Only Uniform Required” and provides details for the parade’s formation on Main Street at 10:30 a.m.

More communities should follow Wellington’s lead. The Civilian Brigade is a great idea especially as our veterans’ ranks are thinning. Would be nice to see something like this in Picton.
