UPDATE: Recycling routes will not be collected as of 11 am on Feb. 6th, 2019 due to the worsening road conditions. Instead, recycling will be collected on Saturday, February 9th. The impacted areas are as follows: Centre Thurlow, Cannifton, North Centre Hastings, Sidney Ward and Murray Ward (South of the 401) in Quinte West, and Picton and Bloomfield in Prince Edward County.
Waste has not been collected in South Marysburgh and North Marysburgh wards. Collection will resume in those wards tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 7) at 7 am weather permitting.
Students are being dismissed from schools; parents are being asked to pick up their children as soon as possible.
Travel throughout the County and Quinte area could be tricky Wednesday.
Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for the area, forecasting ice pellets, freezing rain and drizzle.
The agency reports ice pellet accumulations of 2 to 4 cm before the precipitation comes to an end Wednesday evening or overnight.
Prince Edward County crews will be out this morning applying sand and/or salt according to conditions. Major roads will be treated first. School buses have been cancelled, though schools are open.
The Wednesday evening commute is also expected to be affected due to accumulating ice pellets and the potential for untreated surfaces to become icy.
