Turbine parts taking two routes out of the County

Turbine nacelle moved through traffice circle at Picton – Paul Wallace photo

Equipment from the provincially cancelled White Pines Development (wpd) Industrial Wind Turbine sites is moving out of the County.

The County’s Paul Wallace captured these two images Thursday and Friday of a blade being transported over the Skyway Bridge, and a nacelle that made its way through the traffic circle at Picton, heading to Bloomfield.

Some 18 trips are under way as part of recouping provincial money spent on the penalty for cancelling the project. The blades, heads and nacelles were purchased by a Quebec firm.

They had intended to move the very heavy parts using the same route that wpd brought them in, but learned they were too heavy for the Skyway Bridge, still under construction.

The Ministry of Transportation, in an effort to support sister Ministry of Energy, fast-tracked approvals for the new route for part of the removals which avoids County Road 49 and the bridge.

The heavy parts would are travelling approximately 4kms of County roads – on Sandy Hook and through Bloomfield Main, then along Highway 62.
