Two lane bridge for Murray Canal

A two lane bridge will be constructed at the Murray Canal.

Northumberland-Quinte West MP Rick Norlock announced Tuesday the federal government announced, after two years, a change from the plan for a single lane bridge across the canal at County Road 64.

The bridge connects the southwest corner of Quinte West and Brighton. It is also well used for access into Prince Edward County.

The cost of the bridge is expected to be between $8 and $10 million. The government announced $2.3 billion for infrastructure upgrades to Parks Canada facilities across Canada, including improvements to the Trent-Severn Waterway.

Prince Edward County council provided its support to the Murray Canal District Organization in last April to request Parks Canada and other federal officials suspend the plan for a replacement single lane swing bridge.
