The Rotary Club of Picton, in a continuing partnership with the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation, invites wine lovers to judge some of the best pourings in Canada at a premier wine tasting event this June.

Uncork Canada, in its fourth year in Prince Edward County, is presented by The All Canadian Wine Championships (ACWC) in concert with sponsors Scotiabank Picton, Picton Elks Lodge and The Waring House.

The tasting takes place Saturday, June 23, from 3-6 p.m. in the historic Crystal Palace at Picton fairgrounds.

Event goers are invited to taste some of Canada’s best wines, including medal winners for 2018. The event will feature hundreds of wines, ciders and meads from more than 200 premier wineries and vineyards across the nation. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door for 12 tastings.

Net proceeds will benefit the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s fundraising efforts for the new hospital project.

“What better way to toast the plans for a new hospital in Prince Edward County than by sampling Canada’s best wines?,” said Monica Alyea, chairperson of the hospital foundation. “We are looking forward to raising a glass in support of our County hospital’s redevelopment with all of our attendees this June.”

All of the wines, ciders and meads available for tasting are donated by the All Canadian Wine Championships and are sourced from this year’s judging. All wine making provinces are represented.

“This unique event offers the perfect opportunity for avid wine lovers to sample from hundreds of wines not available through the LCBO,” said Bev Carnaham, ACWC Director. “There is only one bottle of each, so it is really a scavenger hunt for wine lovers.”

Members of the Rotary Club of Picton will be acting as hosts, introducing guests to the great variety of wines and offering up to 12 tastings so patrons can judge for themselves which wines they prefer.

The generosity of the sponsors helps to uncork the event.

“Rotary has a history of supporting the great work done by the foundation, and we look forward to sharing and investing the proceeds back into our community,” said Rob Leek, past president of the Picton Rotary Club. “It is our hope that wine connoisseurs from across the province will join us in celebrating Canada’s great wines in support of a great cause.”

“This walk around tasting of outstanding Canadian wines is becoming a highly recognizable event,” said Penny Rolinski, executive director of the hospital foundation. “For wine-lovers and those working in or associated with the wine industry, it shouldn’t be missed.”
