Venus and Jupiter dazzling in early evening sky

http://www.space.com/14892-skywatcher-photos-venus-jupiter-conjunction.html

Look to the western sky to see Jupiter and Venus at their closest tonight at the width of two fingers at arms’ length. Mars is also in the sky in the east.

They look close, but Venus is nearly 75.9 million miles distant from Earth, and Jupiter sits about seven times farther away at 524 million miles.
This week’s show lasts for more than four hours after sunset, before the planets sink below the horizon and is visible throughout the Northern Hemisphere.

Venus-Jupiter conjunctions are common. As the planets are the second and third brightest after the moon, their conjunctions command attention.
