Veterans’ Day at Glenwood Cemetery on Saturday will be “Honouring All Who Serve” with expanded activities for the whole family.

The day begins at 9:45 a.m. with a memorial service at the Veterans’ Plot. Air cadets will greet those in attendance and direct them to the assembly area. The 45-minute ceremony will feature a parade with colour parties, a pipe and drum band, and guest soloist Jeanette Arsenault. Among the dignitaries in attendance will be Senior Military Officer, Lieut. Col. Cathy Blue of 8 Wing, Trenton who will salute veterans with a military tribute. Canadian flags and poppies will be distributed to all who wish to decorate the individual graves of war veterans.

For the first time, Veterans’ Day Family Activities have been organized and will take place from 1 to 3 p.m.

A fun-filled afternoon with a military theme will be geared to children and will feature an educational slant.

There will be horse and wagon rides, along the roadways of historic Glenwood, with a commentator to describe its history. There will also be a photo contest organized by County Photographer Phil Norton. Visitors are invited to pose with Leigh Moore and Wendy Daxon who will be dressed in period costume as United Empire Loyalists.

“The Men Who Marched Away” an historic walking tour organized by Maggie Haylock Capon, will profile soldiers of Prince Edward County. This event will begin at the Glenwood chapel at 2 p.m. The costumed walk will be led by Lt.Col. Thomas Bog (Don Roberts) and will feature vocalists Julian Gallo (Wally Williamson) and Lenni Stewart, singing wartime favourites.
A scavenger hunt also will take place on Saturday afternoon.

Site records for Glenwood Cemetery will be on display with Roger Bryant, to assist with inquiries.
