Vimy Flight tour to touch down at Picton airport

The Prince Edward Flying Club welcomes the public to see a number of vintage aircraft replicas as the Vimy Flight Birth of a Nation, cross-Canada Centennial Tour touches down at Picton Airport.

The vintage First World War biplane replicas are scheduled to visit the Picton Airport Monday, July 3 from 11 am to 1 pm. The show is free of charge and open to the public. The tour commemorates the nation’s heroes of the past century and Canada’s 150th birthday.

Dave Main, President of the Prince Edward Flying Club, said Vimy Flight is a team of volunteer retired and active Canadian pilots.

“On April 9th, they performed a commemorative biplane fly-past over the Vimy Ridge memorial in Vimy, France. The team is now bringing this wonderful reflection of our aviation history back to Canada in their Birth of a Nation tour.”

After participating in the July 1st Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa, the team of pilots and ground crew are heading west to continue their national tour.

“We’re thrilled that they’re including a stopover at Picton Airport, and we encourage the public to come out, see the planes, and talk to the pilots and team members who are the flying force behind this extraordinary initiative,” said Main.

As highlighted on the VIMY FLIGHT website (vimyflight.ca), the tour offers Canadians a glimpse of our past and “pays homage to our brave veterans of the air who so valiantly faced desperate conditions in order to save the lives of those brave young men on the ground.”

The Prince Edward Flying Club (PEFC) is a non-profit corporation, owned and operated for and by its members. The club, a member of COPA Flight 53, celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2013. Visit prince-edward-flying-club.com for more information.
