Visitors to County waterfalls donate $2,500 toward safe drinking water

More than 1,000 visitors from as far as  Sudbury, Timmins, Pickering, Yonkers NY, Belleville, Kingston, all corners of  the County and many places in between participated in the Picton Rotary Club’s annual waterfall tours event last weekend.

Children, adults, seniors and dogs enjoyed the beautiful sunny days, and the generosity of these visitors shone on the Atorkor Project in Ghana, Africa with donations in excess of $2500 over the two days.

The praises were never ending for the generosity of the landowners who for the 8th consecutive year have allowed the public to visit their beautiful properties. The Picton Rotary Club is greatly indebted to Hossein and Anne Banani and John and Brenda Laws for their ongoing support of Rotary in their efforts on behalf of areas in the world which do not have access to safe drinking water.

The Picton Rotary Club has been a strong supporter of Atorkor, a project in Ghana Africa which is being overseen by one of their own.

Picton Rotarian Peta Hall spends most of her time in Ghana working and supervising for the  Atorkor Development Foundation which is establishing a Vocational Training and Employment Centre in a poverty stricken region of Ghana.  Donations from the Picton Rotary Waterfalls Tour last spring supported the funding for a water system and water tower for the Atorkor Centre.  This year’s donations will help to build the piping structure required to bring fresh water from a nearby natural resource to the Atorkor Trade School.
